So, I have some friends who started putting on a festival (Kah-Bang) a few years back in Bangor, Maine that is growing in popularity. This will be the third year and line-up is the best by far and should be an amazing weekend. Last two years were OK, not really my style, but MMJ will be headlining it this year, as well as appearances by Grace Potter and Atmosphere. First year they drew about 2500 and last year 7000 (with headliners of OK Go and BOB). Should be a great turnout, so if you are in New England think about it and pump some money into Maine!!! They told me a weekend pass would be very affordable, and they still are in talks for a Friday night headliner.

Here is the lineup.

http://www.kahbang.com/music/lineup

The festival is actually a week long affair, with independent films being showed and art displays, and the music closing it out for the final weekend.

I grew up an hour north of Bangor, and presently live about 2 hours south. I definitely plan on being there. I'll probably wait for individual day passes to go on sale, but am totally psyched for MMJ to be playing in central Maine  Still sounds funny to hear.'

Kudos to your friends for bringing some $$ into this great state.

I should add that the music will be on the Bangor waterfront. Pretty nice area.

Plus, all you outsiders can go check out Stephen Kings house!!

    You in Portland Can'tKeep?

Sure am. Are you from around here? I'd love to hear how your buddies got MMJ to sign on.

As a former Maine resident, I'm glad to hear about this. Takes the sting away from not having Nateva, which could have blossomed if given a few more years.

My friends told me that they will be announcing some more bands next week and I would be pleased. Also are supposed to announce single day passes. I don't think the lineup will get huge because of finances, but they are supposed to add another quality band or two and some supporting acts. Considering it will only be the third year, it will just get better if they sell well this year.

It says on the Kahbang page that Advanced Tickets are on sale May 27th. Is that the single day passes?

So, for those who have gone in the past, what type of sets are we looking at from the headliners (specifically MMJ)? Full on sets (20-25 songs) or more of a festival set (as they just did at the Hangout festival - 15 songs)?

I think at this point they are giving MMJ a two hour block. I know Bangor has a curfew, but there is always the possibility that its broken and a fine is paid. Not sure if the band or promoters would be paying that though, so I guess it might depend on overall ticket sales. I am hoping for a similar set length to the october State Theatre show. Show was sick!

I'll make it up there one of these years jervin. Can't do this year, but I'll get up there at some point. Maine kicks ass.

edit: Bangor? I hardly know her. Sorry, couldn't resist.

    :lol::lol:

Well, the girl in charge of booking bands used to work for MMJ's management company. That is why they were able to book them to headline. She has good connections in the industry, so hopefully that bodes well for future festivals.

I am going to push for The National and TV on the Radio for next year, but if this years festival does well maybe it could open the door for slightly bigger acts like Black Keys, etc. Here's hoping! :D

Haha. I will next weekend. I am sure MMJ would be willing to play a long set, but it all depends on the city and community because the show is outside. I'll keep you posted.
