yeah, why would you want to be exposed to people who disagree...that would only allow you to challenge your own beliefs...which is bullshit if you ask me...

Considering it's namesake comes from "You Can't Be Neutral on a Moving Train" by Zinn, a leftist.. would you expect anything different? 8-)

that was rather condescending, or were you replying to the specific OP's attitudes? Knowing you it is the latter...at least I hope it is.

But I certainly think most views are represented here on the train...I wouldn't consider any extreme, except maybe Prince of Dorkness, he seems to have an extreme hate of christianity...although I would consider it probably well founded in his case.
it seems like people fall into two sides of an issue to me...either they think America is a great place and everyone who talks badly about it can go fuck themselves, or they think America is a great place full of shitty people who do shitty things in the name of their country...(although we may disagree as to what the shitty things are)...I would say being apart of the former is much more damaging than the latter.

by the way, wanting those things you speak of is not exclusive to the left, neither is an education...but again I think you were simply talking about the OP

I do know that antagonizing sure does help you fit in...should help you a lot...if you think they are ideologues challenge the idea with facts and make specific points in a respectful way and I am sure you will have a much better time here...the beauty of the train is it is pretty representative of all of America...except for a mutual interest in all things political that most of the people here share and most people in the country at large do not.

Doesn't seem that way, not many here agree with my views.

I haven't seen a lot of your views but I can say that if you write a topic that people agree with they tend to not reply as much as those who disagree with it.
If you are on the right, there are plenty of people here who will agree with many of your ideas, however if you aren't respectful of other people they will tend to come after you hard...I found early on that the more respectful you are the more you will get here, just like any other walk of life...You seem young by your posts and the start of this thread and I would encourage you to realize you don't have all the answers, none of us do, our beliefs are ever evolving and when yours get challenged you can either roll with it, read more and affirm your opinions, or change them now that you have seen another angle...anyway you go with it is completely up to you, but if you are simply looking for affirmation maybe hannity.com is the way to go

Are you looking for acceptance Thoughts? That's what you're basically driving at. We debate, discuss and argue on the Train. AET is your best bet if you're only looking for someone to agree with you most of the time.

no that was not condescending. that was my satirical jab at those on this forum that hold people's education against them. like when i get called an elitist because of my education and because i am an intelligent man. like when obama gets called an elitist for his education. there are several members here who have attacked others over the last few years because of their education and having gone to college and done well for themselves. that was what i was referring to with the "evil booklernin' and fancypants degrees" line, because in the run up to the iraq war those things were actually said to me and others on here at that time.

i love my country, but i expect the best out of it. i expect that we actually act like the leaders that we portray ourselves to be, and it is my duty to call it out on its inactions or misdeeds. that is everyone's responsibility. i have no problems pointing out the stains on the fabric of my country. others are content to hide those stains, but not me. it is my duty to call this government out on its bullshit. that is any american's job, but unfortunately i only see a few people on here as passionate about it as me. people need to be the change that they want to see in this country. it is so easy to sit back and lob criticisms but do nothing about it. the armchair presidents on here easily say what they would do, or criticize obama for trying to pursue his agenda that he was elected to do, while at the same time having no idea of the nuances of each decision he has to make. if everything was that easy we would not be in this mess.

  • BlockheadBlockhead Posts: 1,538
Something that is completely lost on this site is personal responsibility - If you can't take care of your self don't worry well force someone to, you can have everything they have for free or reduced cost and don't worry about taking responsibility for your children/homes, well take other peoples money to ensure you don't have to make any sacrifices of your own. ALso don't worry there is no punishment for abuse and you can recieve these benefits for an unlimited ammount of time. Also don't worry about taking care of your communities, once they get destroyed well make laws and force nice communities to allot land for more housing so you can live in a nicer areas. Also you don't have to worry about parenting, thats what the gov is here for. Well proivde your kids with clothes, shelter, food, schooling, healthcare, all you have to do is... nothing... We'll even have the schools provide weekend food for your family.

It's interesting that those who post on A Moving Train who disagree with the progressive view point seem really pissed off but mostly just post about how pissed off they are. What is with that?

Fortunately, most everyone here seem to really care about making positive changes in the world so me, I'll stick around, thank you!
