Why does the queen always wear white gloves when greeting people?
Is she scared of making skin to skin contact with "lesser" people?

Do you really think it is actually going to cost anything? I mean it seems obvious to me that the amount of revenue generated by that event could easily cover the cost of it. I mean you have all those people travelling to London to watch, they all pay for flights, hotels, meals, drinks, souvenirs. On top of that you have all the memorabilia being produced for people to buy, and all the magazines and books and that sort of thing. Plus the television broadcast rights, and the fact that the whole ceremony being broadcast around the world is basically one huge commercial for UK tourism (meaning more people will come in the future). The tax revenue alone would probably cover the cost of the ceremony and on top of that you get a huge boost to the economy.

It shits me to tears that Aussies pay these pigs through taxes.
Money that could be better spent on education, hospitals, medical research, infrastructure etc etc

Really? What part of our tax revenue goes to them???

But even if we did have extra money the government wouldn't spend it on those things listed above. Like the new carbon tax were over 50% of it goes back to the people who pay the tax to help with the increase in living costs the tax will create. Well, that doesn't make any sense to me at all.

I'll get up at 1am, put on a tiara, and spark one up. Happy wedding day Will and Kate. *wondering if I should get some English Breakfast tea or Earl Grey to make it all authentic* (yes I do realize that British folk think American English Breakfast/Earl Grey tea is disgusting)

Not sure but all Commonwealth nations give the royal family money from our taxes.

Not true. When ever they are in our country on official business yes we foot the bill. But it's the same for most world leaders. We even payed millions to get Oprah here. But we don't give them money annually from our taxes. I think that was one of the propaganda things brought up by the republican movement to help their cause.

Search on wiki "monarchy of Australia" there is a section there about finance.

Even in the UK the royal family actually makes more money than it costs. Basically most, if not all of the property that the queen owns, is signed over to the UK government in trust. Most of that property is revenue generating meaning it brings in a ton of money for the government. In exchange the government gives the royal family money to pay for things like living expenses, palace staff and maintenance. But what the government gives is only like 10 percent of what they make of the Royal Family. And that doesn't even include how much the government makes off tourism. I was in London a few years ago and we went to buckhingham palace to watch the changing of the guard. It was a weekday in the summer and it was raining but there was still a ton of people out there watching it.

If you had $14,000, you may be able to buy them off this guy:

I must be getting naive, but it hadn't crossed my mind that anyone outside the UK would be watching this - until I heard the grunge chick guests on last night's Sirius show saying there were staying up to watch it. I was planning to spend my free day off work in the pub or something - but I think I'm gonna watch it now to see some of the fuss. It will certainly be a spectacular - but no doubt make us Brits look like some backwards Medieval freak show nation. Is probably worth watching just to see the media circus and all the ceremony. I remember watching his mother's wedding live as a kid (and didn't that marriage go well!)
