What are you thinking you'll shoot with it?

I would go with a Canon dslr if it were me. The videographers that did my wedding used these and it produced an unbelievable HD video.

As someone who does this professionally. I would recommend staying away from DSLR cameras If you are simply looking for something with which to shoot everyday stuff like you listed. You will run into all kinds of headaches that you won't want to deal with when shooting home movies, etc. I don't typically work with consumer cameras but my advice would be to stick with companies that actually manufacture professional grade cameras (meaning stay away from some like flipcams, gopro, etc) and go with something from Panasonic, Canon, JVC, Sony, etc. (although Sony is typically more expensive simply for the name). I would look into something like this...

    or maybe this

    Sweet..thanks a lot

Yeah..I almost pulled the trigger on one of those flipcams but thought better of it

I'm so out of the loop with these camcorders I guess they did away with ones that recorded directly to the disc ? All I see now is Hard Drive or SD Card.

For the most part yes. Invest in an external storage drive to save all your footage to and you'll be fine. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me. I'll help as much as I can. Happy shopping.
