I've had travelling on my mind recently and after thinking of going back to europe, i then thought, what about north america?

I'm a bit of a nature girl so from a nature/scenic point of view where are some must see places? apart from the obvious grand canyon, yellowstone, monument valley

The poconos in Pennsylvania are also gorgeous this time of year. This is Lake Harmony, PA.

  • The Great White North has some of the most breath-taking scenery in the world.
Especially the view from my balcony.

if you have a lot of time - i would suggest coming late summer and moving north to south ... some of the parks are just too hot in the summer (grand canyon and most of the southwest) ... i would start on the west coast where we have more scenic spots ... depending on how long you actually have and funds ... you can start as high up as alaska and just make your way down and it's one picturesque spot after another ... you want to time your visit so that you hit the america southwest for around late september where you'll have better temperatures and still decent daylight ...

also - best thing you can do is get yourself a national parks pass ...

some spots you must hit are fairly obviuos: Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Yellowstone/Tetons, Zion, Arches, Glacier ...

Red Rock Canyon and Valley of Fire outside of Las Vegas is nice too but as has already been mentioned on here, summer weather in the Southwest is ridiculously hot (and other than those two places, Vegas sucks).

Canada is also in North America... the Rocky Mountains are fab (Banff, Jasper, Yoho National Parks), and we love the West Coast (Pacific Rim National Park). I agree with the National Park recommendation. In the USA we have seen Glacier, Badlands, and The Mount Rushmore National Monument is amazingly cool!
