Putting my beagle down

I adopted this ol hound 3 years ago and he has been such a great dog and a loyal friend... He would follow me into hell if he had to. Recently he began losing control and having accidents in the house ... Tried low protein diets and diapers but now its just out of control. I love this dog like family...this might be the hardest thing i've ever had to do in my adult life.

Sorry to hear that, it's not easy to go through. We had to put down our Golden Retriever several years back and it was not easy. It was for the best as his hips had gotten so bad he couldn't get around and was in a lot of pain. The vet made the process more bearable for us.

JGW - I am so very sorry to hear about your dog - it is so amazing how much a furry little creature can mean to us - I lost my boy Rudy about a month ago now and I think about him everyday - I was lucky to be able to bury him next to a stone wall in a nice meadow on our property - the heartache will pass as long as you revel in all the wonderfully glorious times you had together - Rudy was a beagle too - I'm with you man and your pooch always always always will be too

    The Rainbow Bridge

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.
For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.
No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.
They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.
    For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.
The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

Sad decision, sad day. I'm sorry to hear this. I hope you will find something, a new SPCA pet perhaps, that will bring you joy just like your beagle. At least he won't be in pain. Stay strong.

Putting a dog down is one of the hardest things to have to do. I am sorry for you having to go through this. It will definitely get better though...it just takes time. You and your pup will be in my thoughts today.
Is it so wrong to think that love can keep us safe?

I am so sorry to hear about your dog. I'm sure your vet has tried everything but if you haven't tried Cosequin, please do. It's been a miracle product for my cat, who used to urinate all over our house. My thoughts are with you. Hugs to you and your dog.
My last message to you ~

You're right. You are a monster! You are sick! Get help!

    At least, I am not a fuck-up! A lying fuck-up!

Sorry to hear this man  be there with him till the end. And if you can't do it, hug him, and kiss him.. hold him tight.

Remember you are doing him a favor, and he will be forever grateful. He knows that you are helping him.

You will be fine, and he will forever be pain free.

for some reason talk of this can bring me to tears faster than talk of humans in poor health - sad, I know but there's somthing about the unconditional love that a pet will show it's friend and owner. Wishing you the best as I know it's one of the toughest things you can ever be faced with as an animal lover. It's a hard fact to face that pets just dont last as long as we will.

I'm with you he who forgets, my husband is a vet and I find myself in situations often having to assist with this undesirable task and I am always brought to tears. Even though I just met the animal it is heart breaking. I think maybe it is because they can't help themselves and I wonder if they know how much they have been loved. It is just a blessing you can give an animal sometimes when they are just so sick. It doesn't matter the reason, it is always a sad and hard decision to make.
