I heard a recent rumor that the east coast tour was a soft-release of new music for an upcoming 2008 summer release. Any truth to that or is this more gossip?

Let's see...you have 5 posts on the board...so I'm gonna say good day to you sir.
i really hate it when someone looks down on a jammer with just a minimal number of posts. having a high number of posts doesn't mean you are an elite or an "untouchable" know-it-all pearl jam fan.
peace.

What does having 5 posts have anything to do with speculating about a rumor???
I'm saying that alot of people have been coming out of nowhere with rumors, and it's getting a little ridiculous, that's all. It could be true, but it's been happening an awful lot from people that haven't been on the board.
Has Pearl Jam ever done a tour as a "soft release" of new music? Not that I can remember. Even during the 2005 tour, when most of Avocado was written, they didn't play anything new.
I think this is just a few shows before they go back into the studio to record something new.

in a traditional sense, i doubt it, the new music would be all over the web before release.
in a non-traditional sense, I could see it, especially if they plan on doing something like Radiohead did. Even better, like Prince did, up the ticket prices 7 bucks, and include a copy of the cd with each ticket.
"Music, for me, was fucking heroin." eV (nothing Ed has said is more true for me personally than this quote)
They've never done a tour specifically as a soft release that I can recall, but they have played songs live before releasing them like some songs from Vs. and Vitalogy and "Gone," so maybe we'll at least get to hear a new song or 2 on the tour. I doubt that we'll hear all or a majority of an upcoming album, though.

just because they havnt done something in a while doesnt mean it wont happen! remember when they played all of avocado in a row in 2006 that hadnt happened since in early 90's. anything can happen

Wow, way to roll out the red carpet there, guy. Considering the other rumor/indication about Brendan O'Brien doing the mixing, seems like the "noob" might have some legit info.

I don't think we know anything that would indicate a summer release is pending. There was some garbage posted last week about an already-completed album in which Ed sings only one of the songs. It was roundly dismissed.
It is time to admit that we used to rock like hurricanes. It is time to run for the hills and go round and round. It is time for us to shout at the devil. We've got the right to choose it, there ain't no way we'll lose it, and we're not gonna take it anymore.

I thought there was something that Ed was in the studio recently. Even so, if they were getting close, news of PJ being in the studio somewhere would have popped out. It would be great to hear some new material, although I really like Avocado, and I don't mine them lingering on it a while longer.

hope the rumor is true
Yeah seriously. I've been in the 10 club since 98 and will be seeing my 20th show this tour. But I only have 173 or so posts so I guess anything that I say won't be taken seriously until I get 700 or 800 more posts in. Better start working on that right away. To hell with work and playing in my own band.
