I finally got Lost Dogs on vinyl! I opened up the package, tore off the plastic and have been listening all day. I've been hearing things I have never heard before on these songs. This needs to be re-pressed so everyone can enjoy this masterpiece. It cost me most of my extra cash but was well worth it. The artwork stands out so much more on the vinyl copy than on the cd. This will be next to my turn table for a very long time. :D

honestly, a lot of people wont notice a difference. most people arent willing to spend the money on a good turntalbe/needle/tone arm, amp and speakers. but when you have a nice set up, there is a much richer sound. you can get a fair turntable from the 80's for around $100 and enjoy the hobby of vinyl, but dnt expect anything spectacular. i wouldnt let the high cost turn me way from it, just build up a system one piece at a time :)

start checking out flea markets and yard sales for turntables, some people, sometimes dont know what they are selling ;)

The difference is miniscule. Don't worry about it. PJ's music is suppose to sound a little dirty. the whole vinyl thing is BS. Just something for people to collect. If you like the music, vinyl doesn't make a difference.

Vinyl does sound better than CDs, no BS here. As long as you have a good setup (not just your parents' old record player you found in the basement or attic) it does make a difference.

I have many records and I spin them regularly. For some records may just be collectibles, but for me it's all about having the best possible sound quality.

Sweet! I was happy to have bought it from the 10C when they had them for sale. I'll have to give it a spin soon as it's been a while since it's seen my turntable.

most of this is complete bullshit...

if vinyl actually sounded bad it would have gone the way of cassttes a long time ago...obviously it sounds better, why else would professional musicians (in this case pearl jam, but the list is endless) still release and re-release their own music on vinyl...cause they fucking love it and want their fans to hear what they hear!

vinyl sounds great! its rich, its pure, it feels good!

yeah, you need a decent system...yeah modern turntables aint cheap and then you have to build an entire system around that so it is expensive...

but if you love music, putting an awesome rock lp on your tuntable and crankin it up loud is the way to go...the way the devil intended rock n roll to be heard!
I shit and I stink, I'm real, join the club...

Yeah, why would they put out something that people will spend more money for?

yeah, making money, what a silly concept...

most musicians have to fight with their record companies to get their music released on vinyl. it usually is a loss to the record company, but the bands do it for the fans who love the sound as much as they do...if it was to make more money youd see every group in the world on vinyl and in major record stores...but you dont.

No, they release everything digitally because it is the most used medium--CD or otherwise. They release the vinyl because there are fans that will ALSO pay for vinyl--and think/want other people to think that they are 'hardcore' fans. Answer this: Did you only buy the vinyl? Fuck no. You paid double for the same thing. Sucker.

  • actually the only pearl jam cds i own are the live bootlegs...the rest is on vinyl, why would i buy the cd if i could have the vinyl?...i havent bought a cd in years, i only buy vinyl and digital downloads. (actually, i bought a cd directly from a band at their live show the other day, simply b/c they are so small that they arent online yet and dont have any vinyl out yet.)

what are you trying to prove here?
that vinyl is bad and only released to make more money?
that you are more thrifty then anyone who buys vinyl?
    good for you...

this was a thread about how awesome lost dogs on vinyl is and for some reason some people decided to write in to bash vinyl...like its only there to make the band more money...like the band has any trouble with that.

My bad. sorry guys, a little stoned. Anyway, Lost Dogs is sweet. I prefer disk 2. Makes you think a little. Then 4:20 just makes you really think. For not being an 'album', it really hangs together well.
  • ...lost dogs i amazing...and for those who enjoy vinyl, its amazing on vinyl. there is no need to argue or call people name here...

That is a great price for Vitalogy. I paid $30 for it, and $80 for Lost Dogs. Which I will say again is simply amazing! Two of my least favorite songs on it used to be "Don't Gimme No Lip" and "Black,Red, Yellow", and know I love them! :D Vinyl is a powerful thing.

lost dogs is sadly missing from my pj vinyl collection. dunno why. just timing i guess.

i don't have an 'awesome' vinyl set-up, just an average nice one leftover from when it was actually the only way to play music.

i recorded all my (old) vinyl onto minidisc - how weird is that! :) - it makes it portable and just sounds warmer than mp3s or copies from cds.

it took me a long time to start buying cds (okay you young things, yes, i'm old) - the first cd i ever bought was ten. how ironic is that? if i coulda got it on vinyl when it was first released, i woulda.

Unfortunately, whenever there is a thread about vinyl someone who doesn't understand how much better the music can sound has to jump in and start bashing us audiophiles for preferring this superior format. If they don't like vinyl then they should just stay out of threads about it.

It's a scientific fact that vinyls have a richer sound than CDs, mp3s, or whatever else people record their music on these days.

    True.

    LP > CD > mp3

    Yes indeed.

With that said, Lost Dogs is awesome on Vinyl. I finally just purchased a good turntable a couple months back and finally got the chance to open up all my PJ vinyl and spin it!
  • It's all in the mastering, folks. Vinyl doesn't automatically mean better sound. Pearl Jam vinyl is very similar to the CD's. Avocado on vinyl is just as compressed, harsh, and loud as the CD version. They could have done a much better job. If Pearl Jam vinyl was audiophile quality, it would be a totally different story. (See the vinyl of "Stadium Arcadium", for example. It was deliberately mastered "old school" and it completely blows away the awful CD version.)
