The state that executes the most people in the U.S. might raise their speed limits. I know its a big state and you wanna get through it quickly, but 85mph!? haha, that's awesome, I'm keeping out of Texas though.

I've only driven on roads that are 70 or 75 limits, and I commonly see people going 85-95 (but then again South Florida is a terrbile driving area). If the limit on some roads in TX is 85..are people going to commonly go 100mph?!!?

The problem is people in this country don't know how to drive! Like here in NY assholes drive slow in left lane and cause crashes. People in Germany know not to get in the way. I can just see going 100 and some dumb ass pull out to pass at 60. BOOM!

I drove 115mph on the autostrada in Italy and my Fiat diesel stationwagon rental was floored and going down hill on a six lane stretch of highway. I was passed by Mercedes sedans like I was standing still. The beauty of it was everyone flashed their lights when they were approaching from behind and everyone got out of the way. Furthermore the far left lane was a passing lane and only used to blow past slower moving vehicles. People in those little mini cars stayed over to the right and never clogged up the higher speed lanes. My only screw up of driving all over Italy for three weeks was merging onto a two lane stretch of highway and not having the get up and go in the Fiat so that a guy flying down the highway had to break pretty hard or he would have rear ended me  . He pulled up beside me and was giving me the Italian version of the middle finger and he was clearly pissed. And rightly so. You definitely need to be payiong closer attention and something that looks like a dot in your review is on you in no time. And then its out of sight 8-) .

    Go fast while you can!

    Peace.

It will be interesting to see how they handle a higher speed limit. If they start having a lot more traffic fatalities on the interstates, I think you should expect to see the limit reduced.

I live in Texas and we already have our share of highway fatalities. The DOT used to have a motto of Drive Friendly. I'd say that's pretty ancient history now. People who've moved away ALWAYS comment on how crazy people drive here when they come back to visit. If the speed limit goes up to 85, the only thing I'm sure will happen is all the people currently driving 85 mph will be going 95-100.

I've been to Germany though I didn't drive on the Autobahn myself. But as a passenger it was obvious to me that people were very observant of the rules of the road, which is why high speeds work there.

teach people to stay right except to pass and all is good.

big no no on the autobahn to roll left lane

85 might be a bit much, but i cruise normally at 75-80 on the interstate. 90 doesn't bother me
81 is now off the air
