saw this http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... NNr3quTz54 and thought, really??

I adored the first 2 albums and they have tapered off the cliff in recent years....they were a dangerous rocknroll band for a while but now they have videos showing them saying prayers before going on stage....I personally dont get it. Christian Rocknroll, now there is an oxymoron.....this is just my opinion. I mean no disrespect. To me theyve lost their edge.....wont be rushing out to see the doco....

Man, I dislike this band even more now. That whole "aw shucks" attutude and "Deliverance" environment seems really fake.

I get the feeling half the audience in those crowd shots are 13 year old girls who just came to see "Use Somebody."

I wonder if PJ regrets pimping out this band so much.

Weren't they brought up with a fairly religious background? It doesn't surprise me that they would pray before a show.

But if it was Islam or some other newer religion it would prob be ok and hip right? How bout we let them practice religion the way they want to and you can practice selective hearing.

Wow.....More ridiculous shit for people to gripe about. This one beats them all. They were probably praying backstage when they were "cool" too. Did you guys all start watching Glee when the creator trashed KoL?

Yeah, I'm sure PJ regrets taking them on tour.

How dare they pray. They should have turned their back on everything they were raised on as soon as they got famous so that they look cool and hip. I wonder if Dylan had these stupid comments when he put out a Christian album.

I don't care what the fuck they do backstage, it's what they do ONSTAGE that counts.

does this mean Im only allowed to express my freedom of opinion as long as you agree with it? I didnt use any offensive language, I do feel strongly about this because I absolutely love this band and I dont know where they are now headed. This new path isnt one I want to walk down with them. Ridiculous and Offensive, give me a break. This isnt the section headed "other music that we must love and never question"....

sorry if my being offended offended you. maybe we saw a different trailer? :?

there's bound to be religious overtones when 3/4 of the band were sons or a traveling preacher. i'm not a religious nut by any stretch, and it wasn't your comments that offended me exactly. it was someone else's. i thought it was common knowledge (their background)...i guess i was wrong. i am now reminded of why i stay away from anti-this and anti-that threads. thanks for that.

    edit:
just saw your post as i was trying to post this. we agree to disagree. fair enough? like i said, it wasn't YOUR comments that bothered me. we don't have to agree. i'm ok with that. i'm sure you're a great guy and all.

i think it looks pretty interesting.

having met those guys on a few occasions on their first few trips through here i can attest that they are (or at least until last time i hung with them in november 2008) pretty cool and down to earth guys. they had a really sheltered upbringing and religion was the main focus of their lives as kids. their dad was a traveling preacher and Caleb was going to be a preacher one day. i think i am going to check this doc out. maybe i am a little less judgemental of them because i have actually met and partied with them and kind of gotten to know them a little bit as people and not as the personas portrayed in the media.

Cool man...it seems that my point on how much I feel KOL have changed gets overlooked straight away because religion is mentioned. I know theyve always been religious but seriously you would never have guessed with the first 2 albums. (i could be wrong here but isnt their name taken from their preacher father who is called Leon?)...now they have decided to put the religion very much out there...which is fine but not the KOL I fell in love with. They put it out there, I talk about it, then inevitably people get offended, I get it. I dont understand it but get it. KOL took uk and ireland by storm long before they were recognised anywhere else. I saw them at the start and they were dangerous, they in my opinion changed the dynamic of guitar music at that time...I dont get that same buzz from them...I think his meltdown when they headlined Reading kinda showed they werent ready to be the biggest band in the world...unfortunately.

No actually I havent. I've heard of freedom of speech though.

Bottom line for me is that I find it silly to see some guys praying before a show. Especially a band like KOL with their lyrics. Just listen to "soft". I just find it hypocritical and ridiculous that they do that when they have a song about getting soft around a girl. this is rock music, not church music like I said.

Basically if you're going to act religious then play the part. being a rock star singing about shit like that is not playing the part.

the band grew up with a religious background. Their father was a minister so the guys were raised that way from day one. I can see how it would be frustrating to not be able to listen to music you want and live a certain way because you were brought up with a religious minister. The guys finally grew up were allowed their freedom and chose to persue music. The Toadies are the same way. There is alot of relgion references in the music, but it is not religious music. Vaden Todd Lewis of Toadies' father was a minister as well.

So while the music is going to have some religious influence due to the background, it would be normal to see something like a group prayer before a show. Just being thankful for what God has blessed them with. It must be tough being raised by a minister cause you are always having to be in the limelight as an example. So while the music does have hints at the background in how a band was raised from a religious upbrining, the music showcases regular every day frustrations, that we all go through as humans. They certainly do seem to enjoy the rebellous side of rock and roll, but I understand how their background would also never fully leave them and play a part in their lives.
just saying, not arguing. just throwing in my 2cents.

Kings of Leon are going to hell for writing the devil's music. At least that's what their grandmother thinks.
