Agreed. The songs are actual whole songs. Oh, and Fits is my favorite off that record but I never hear anyone talk about it so good for you.

that record is why stone is and has been such a central figure in their song writing process. the rest of the band can hold their own for sure, its just that stone has the touch....

    to aonswer your first question...shwag.

yea, ed's the man, yea into the wild is a borderline great record but stone sees things that nobody else in the band can see.

tough one. i want to say stone, because those bayleaf songs are just so cool, but for sheer talent and greatness, I personally think ITW is superior. I told stone i loved bayleaf when i met him!

All sorts of crazy ass shit! Ed's music is certainly a good place to learn the guitar, I'll give him that much.

  • Agreed!

Here is the thing...Bayleaf came out in 2001 (I believe) and I am STILL listening to it and one of his songs is generally on just about every playlist I make...

ITW is a soundtrack...and it's weak without the accompanying movie...I don't think I have listened to it in a few months and it didn't come out that long ago.

I hope Gossard comes out with another solo soon...I think his musical sensibility should be celebrated...

  • To enjoy Stonie's voice in all it's glory, find yourself a copy of Sunburn- and if you still don't enjoy it after that, than your just -s-o-l-...

I'm almost ashamed to admit i've never heard a thing off Bayleaf...

As for ITW...i always liked it...thought the first half was catchy and loved Hard Sun, Society and Guaranteed....over time and seeing Ed perform the songs live 4 times, i've grown to absolutely LOVE this album. Sure i wish some of the songs were a little more "fleshed out", but personally i am very excited at the prospect of Ed releasing a follow-up in the next few years....

I think musicians are probably more prone to liking Bayleaf because there is a lot more music going on, not just with other instruments, but song arrangements and the technical aspects of it. I like ITW but it is really simple stuff that feels more like snippets from a musical diary rather than actual songs. I like the two covers more than anything else on there for mostly that reason, they are actual songs. The ITW stuff works well within the scope of the film for sure.

Sunburn is amazing. Stones best song solo or with a band. Period.

Having said that, ITW is a better album than Bayleaf

    Honey, YOU ROCK!! :D:D:D

    *******

I really don't see the point of trying to initiate a steel cage death match between Stoney and Eddie, and comparing an album to a soundtrack is not a fair comparison anyway. I love both works, as I love both musicians -- I can't stand this pull-down-your-fly-and-get-out-your-ruler mentality -- everything is a fucking competition.

That's a highly intelligent remark that just reeks of intellectual sophistication -- how long have you worked for George W. Bush, anyway???
