Browsing through ebay and came across this "Olympic White" vintage Strat. Have you ever seen this happen to a finish before? Nuts! :-? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290552490383&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_1142wt_1141

i have seen them get brownish or yellow before, but never that dark. i want this one lol...but don't worry, i am not gonna bid on it.

i love those old nitro finishes, and this guitar is an amazing example of why i got my strat in olympic white. i hope mine gets like this one one day.

That's what happens when you have a nitro finish and play is smoky bars for 30 years. hahahahahaha Kind of like what happens to smokers teeth.

That is one baddass guitar though although I was never a real fan of the 70's supersize headstock.

  • the cleanliness of the pick guard and the cover on the back seems odd to me if they are original.

Ah I love the oversize head stocks.

I think you are right about the pickguard. There is no way that's the original unless a different pickguard was used all those years.

    I wouldn't be surprised if this was a relic'd Classic 70's Stratocaster.

that is a 3 ply pickguard. my strat is beginning to yellow but the 3 ply guard and back cover are both still really white. in that pic the pickups are yellowing but i think the pickups might be made from a different material than that pickguard. anybody know for sure?

  • I believe the listing is accurate and that the pickguard is original. And there is no way this guitar is "reliced". That is real deal, and I have never seen such a discoloration before. It does look awesome. Insane though! Cant get over it...

Its also possible that they didn't always use the original pickguard.

I confirmed with my amp-tech slash total guitar-electronics genius that the electronics are original and he also agrees that it is original pickguard.

It says the pots and pickup switch have been changed.

Could totally be the original pickguard. I think I'd rather have one with similar wear appearance though.

It may be the original pickguard, but it may not have always been used. I just don't see any way it would have stayed that white. Heck the white pickguard I used to have on my strat has yellowed a lot in a year. You can tell when it is removed.

Again, it also could just be the flash of the camera too that makes it look whiter.
