I have arrived in Perth! And Ed radar is turned on!
Haha
Bring on tonight!
Good one Elisha. You are the only person I know from the Eastern States who is going to be there tonight. Have a great time.
Thanka EK I will try and do the east coast proud!
I 'may' have just seen Ed - ill PM you my eyesight is bad I can't tell!

Great work Chuggy on not giving 10C crap seats - Scored row A about 10 rows back dead centre, eye level, just perfect. Can't remember being at a seated gig where the Artist gets such a rousing standing ovation before he's even strummed a note or uttered a lyric. Set the tone for a awesome gig & it was great to show Ed how appreciative we were that he made it to Perth.
So looking forward to tonight & seeing what surprises are in store.
AT first it was all a little odd. Here we were faced with one of this generation's rock icons and we were seated.
Eddie Vedder
Riverside Theatre, Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre
Thursday, March 31.
Well, that was after the standing ovation that welcomed Eddie Vedder to the Riverside Theatre stage. The rare gesture was an indication of the level of respect and admiration this grunge survivor commands from his loyal fans.
Vedder himself looked slightly uncomfortable, but perhaps it was because, for once, the applause was all for him.
There were no Pearl Jam bandmates beside him, no one to deflect attention.
"Good evening," he said in a low, rumbling baritone as he took his seat front and centre.
Set up like a busker on the street corner with a backdrop of brown stone buildings and an array of goods and chattels littered around him, including battered old suitcases and a cardboard box, Vedder cultivated a slightly eccentric vibe.

End of sidebar. Return to start of sidebar.
This was accentuated by his "helpers" who scuttled about him in lab coats unplugging his guitars and changing the backdrop.
Surprisingly the singer was devoid of the bottle of red, or two, that usually accompanies him onto the stage.
The Australian solo tour is his first outside the US and left local fans with no doubt that even without his bandmates, Vedder is a tour de force. Not that he left us wondering if Pearl Jam were going to disband. "I will be in the group until the day I die," he declared to roars of approval.
The show started in a low key manner with Vedder warming up with the Tom Waits tune "Picture in a Frame", "Sometimes" from Pearl Jam's 1996 album No Code and Bob Dylan's "Girl From the North Country".
Vedder easily commanded our attention as he plucked away at a range of stringed instruments -- guitars, a mandolin and ukuele -- all the while his incredible voice soared across the theatre.
While gently finger-picking his way through Just Breathe, his sixth song of the evening, Vedder failed to capture the attention of his sound engineer and stopped the song.
"Oh s**t, I wanted to say hello and take a break anyway, so how is everybody?
"I think about you a lot," he said. "Everytime I write my address, Seattle WA on the back of a letter, I think to myself, 'now wouldn't that be nice'."
A lover of our surf and weather, Vedder is particularly fond of the South West region, confessing: "I spent a crazy three days in Yallingup one night."
He suggested we could try swapping weather for a little while, "I'm not saying forever," he said when the audience raised their objections to his proposal.
Thinking better of it, he gave up his bid and launched into "Better Man". The song was given a mellow reworking, breathing new life into the old favourite.
Reaching for his ukuele, which is his songwriting instrument du jour as evidenced by the title of his forthcoming solo album "Songs for Ukuele", he advised everyone to "pick up one of these songwriting machines". "If you are high, then feeling a little down. This will pick you up."
The comment reminded him of a funny incident at a Seattle hemp festival in 1993. He said one speaker was debunking the myths surrounding cannabis use including the theory that it leads to memory loss, when he completely forgot which city he was in.
Vedder also took time out to touch on local issues including recent media reports that WA drivers are the worst in the country, particularly when it comes to merging. "I think that is very interesting. It doesn't seem like the people I know. Being a good merger is a good thing, it will smooth things out."
The driving analogy segued well into the "on the road" theme of the next section. Kicking off with "Off He Goes" Vedder then launched into several tracks from his debut solo album Into The Wild including "Setting Forth", "Society" and " Far Behind".
He stopped to thank Sean Penn for inviting him to write the soundtrack to Penn's film of the same name.
"It was these songs that gave me the opportunity to do this sort of thing without the group," he said.
He went on to speak of Penn's work in Haiti where the outbreak of cholera is wreaking more havoc upon the already devastated population. He said he would be donating money from the tour to the cause and urged others to pitch in "an extra few bucks".
The first set ended with one of Pearl Jam's finest -- "Porch". "You can stand if you want," Vedder said, sensing everyone was itching to get on their feet.
The emotionally charged encore was possibly even better than the first set with Vedder telling the crowd that they were easily the best on the tour. "It's more like the way I thought it would be for the whole tour," he said, "but maybe that's because this is the place I remember and this is how I remember it being." He added a quick: "but don't get cocky".
Eliza Jane Barnes joined Vedder on stage for the 1920s torch song "You Belong To Me" and John Doe's "The Golden State". Their voices harmonised beautifully, packing quite an emotional punch. Vedder rode the emotional wave with "Wishlist" before everyone joined in a mass singalong to The Beatles' classic "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away".
"Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town" is a highlight of any set and is often accompanied by mentions of Yallingup. Last night it was simply dedicated to the seaside town. "The End" from Pearl Jam's most recent album Backspacer, rounded out the first encore.
The second encore was the stuff of legend with Vedder, decked out in a lab coat, rocking out to Neil Young's "Rockin' In The Free World". He stripped off the coat and his shirt to get loose on "Hard Sun" from Into the Wild.
Again everyone was on their feet as Vedder danced around the stage, his electric guitar strapped across his shoulder and his wild hair flying around him. It was a familiar sight and one that had the crowd in raptures.
With or without Pearl Jam, there's no doubting Vedder knows how to rock. And he's definitely on a roll.

It was nice to meet the 2 people from New York next to us. Hope you have a few more great days in Ozz! I DO hope a bootleg comes out from this show!
