Roddy, the singer for Idlewild, has just released a new solo album. It's really good. Most fans were expecting a traditional folk album, but that's not what he delivered. Shades of Neil Young and Van Morrison, some country/folk inflections, and some darker numbers are what populate this LP. It's really, really good. I don't really dig folk music, so I'm glad he released something that is wider in scope and diverse in its songs. The production is sympathetic to the songs, too: it doesn't try and make them something they're not. Highly recommended. If anyone has any of those streaming subscription services (I'm not really conversant with how they work), I guess it won't hurt you to listen to some of the tunes!

  • The acoustic shows I saw in May (Dublin and Belfast) were brilliant. They were without a drummer. New tour just started tonight (Friday) in Stockton-on-Tees, UK. This tour has a different violinist and adds a drummer. Our Gav is still on bass, and Sorran is still playing guitar. If any fans are interested, he's touring most of this month in England, and has 4 Scottish dates late October/early November. (I'm going to the 4 Scottish shows). This is going to be really, really good. www.roddywoomble.com has all the tour dates. I can't wait. A friend is even coming over from California to see the Scottish shows with the missus and I!
