The beginning of this song sounds a little too much like the stuff off Strays which was not one of my favorites. The song gets better towards the end, though.
I just started trying to get into these guys, never really gave them a chance.
What is best to start with?
Definitely start with Nothing's Shocking and move on to Ritual De Lo Habitual. For as great a band as they are they don't really have a lot of releases. Their first album is a bunch of live tracks of their early stuff and some covers. There is also a B-sides/rarities album called Kettle Whistle and then an album called Strays that was released in '03, many years after they peaked with Ritual De Lo Habitual.

Good advice.
NB. If you like the show Entourage, the theme tune is from the Jane's album Strays.
Does anyone know who the current bass player is?
My Pearl Jam shows: 1 in 1995, 2 in 1998, 20 in 2003, 13 in 2006, 3 in 2007, 8 in 2008, 5 in 2009, 4 in 2010, 5 in 2012. EV: 8 in 2011, 1 in 2012. Brad: 1 in 1998, 1 in 2002.
Duff better learn to juggle.
Velvet Revolver has a new singer, I think.
Loaded has a new LP out soon and a tour.
And Jane's.
Busy boy, is Mr. Duff!

Duff quit last September. The bassist on the new album is Dave Sitek from TV on the Radio. The temporary touring bassist is Chris Chaney from the Strays era.
Start with Nothing's Shocking. It's one of my favorite albums of all time and has one of my favorite songs, "Mountain Song." Really, it's only that album and Ritual. I really tried to like Strays but something was missing: Eric Avery. I've seen JA 4x, twice in '09 on the NIN/JA tour where they toured with Avery and those sets were incredible.
I was really intrigued when I heard they were going to work with Dave Sitek because I love TV on the Radio but I held a great deal of trepidation because it seemed like a disparate pairing. I've heard the new song a couple times today. My initial reaction was that it was Strays II but I decided to withhold judgment and wait for the full effort. Anxious.
There's a definite reason the Avery albums are classic and the rest aren't: Eric Avery. I wonder who he's playing with now, if at all?

i actually think strays is their most accessible album... some good straightforward rock songs... even if it doesn't have their "hits"
thanks for the link to the new song!
