What albums would you recommend for someone who just had a relative pass away? I would find comfort in albums that either are depressing and sad and deal with the emotions of the death of a loved one, or conversely, Im also interested in albums that are about lifting ones spirits in such a time.

any suggestions for music?

    Don't know what you like but I would say;

    Van Morrison-Astral Weeks
    Arcade Fire-Funeral
    Band of Horses-all 3
    Veedon Fleece (actually any Van from 68 to 75)

    All these albums are uplifting to me but also deal w/ some themes of mortality and can be melancholic

    I recently lost someone very special in my life as well. I find comfort in listening to music that we both loved.

    Also, I found myself crying a few tears the other day when Ringo Starr's "Photograph" came on my iPod. Beautiful song about losing a loved one, especially when it took on new meaning after George Harrison died.

    I am very partial to listening to Floyd's Wish You Were Here, and not so much by my own choice either. The first funeral I attended was when my science teacher I had my senior year died. As we left the church and turned on the radio, that song started. When both of my grandparents died and my wife's grandmother passed away each time when we were driving from the church to the cemetery that song has been playing on the radio. It's been amazing how it's worked out and happened so many times.

    Other than that the Eels are my go to.

    Eric Clapton's 'Tears in Heaven' is a beautiful song. My heartfelt condolences.

    Temple Of The Dog and Cornell's Euphoria Morning for me. I think Bruce Springsteen's The Rising strikes a perfect balance in terms of dealing with the pain of grief and the eventual hope of coming out the other side.

    My thoughts are with you, I know death is just a fact of live, but nothing hurts quite as bad as losing a loved one :cry:
