Being the resident framer, this is of particular interest for me, but if you enjoy "how it's made" type videos, I think you'll really like this one.

I believe the 10/day statistic could be true.

When I was an emergency department nurse, I once had three table saw injuries in one three-day workweek (I was in the minor surgery section of the department that particular week.)

Two of them came in by helicopter, with their severed digits. One lost most of an index finger, a good portion of the middle finger, and the end of the ring finger. the other lost _ and this was really bad _ a significant amount of his thumb.

The third guy somehow managed to slice in between the thumb and index finger, where the soft web of tissue is. Major damage. His was the grossest because it looked so incredibly painful.

So since all three were going to go to the OR for debridement and an attempt to reattach (or heavily suture), I had to ask them when they last ate. And all three had eaten lunch, and for all three lunch consisted of a steak and cheese sub.

I always thought that was weird.

Vegans seldom lose digits in power tool accidents.

    True story.

True, but the trouble they can get into with soy product misadventures... tragic.

Agreed on that, though look at how fast it retracted when the hotdog went thru. Fairly immediately with no real injury.

thats crazy. But what if you literally just jab your finger into it. Almost intentionally. I bet you would fuck up your finger then.

Oh, totally. The blade doesn't disappear... but it immediately retracts. If you're trying to cut your finger off, you may actually be able to do it, if you're fast enough. But if you're moving at a reasonably fast pace (see the hotdog speed) then this will save you almost any blood from showing up.

they'd have to put it on an 'un-edited' movie...FCC would censor that stuff so much, it wouldn't be worth watching...like that 'stink-face video'

I'm not crazy enough to have a table saw.

...my saw has TWO 12" blades, that "chop". MUCH more dangerous, as I have to operate standing literally on one foot.

If someone's nuts enough to do that on purpose, they deserve what they get! This seems like a great invention - my fear of saws has always held me back from learning to use one.
