The Strokes will begin work on their next album in April.

Bassist Nikolai Fraiture confirmed to XFM that the band would begin writing the follow-up to 'Angles' less than a month after that album came out.

"We were just talking about when we would get back together and start writing for the next album," he said. "It should be soon. April, mid-April."

This follows on from comments made by frontman Julian Casablancas, who recently said that the band would begin work on new material "as soon a possible".

Fraiture added that he didn't mind some of the criticism surrounding 'Angles', namely about it not being as instantly accessible as their previous work.

"I love that it takes a few listens," he said. "After a five-year break, we didn’t want to do something that’s like, 'Oh, I get it after one listen!'"

'Angles' was at Number Two in the UK album charts midweeks on Wednesday (March 23).

Yeh me to. I listened first and never liked a few songs...then I listened a second time and wasnt sure about this album. But now its really growing on me. I'm liking it more with every listen. Very different from any other albums which i like. This album for me so far is kind of like The Strokes No Code. First I was like " what the fuck is this? now its growing on me big time. So hopefully in time it becomes one of my favorite Strokes albums.

That's good, I feel like a lot of bands release concise albums because that's the way it was done in the 60's and 70's. But they forget that those same bands also released albums on a yearly (sometimes monthly) basis.

Rubber Soul... 36 minutes of perfection. I like the massive quantity in a short time, but I don't think albums should be long!
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V
