i hate to bring this up again and sound like a bitch but when i met Ed all those years ago he mentioned "Arc" and how it was a huge part of the healing process for him.
They are never far from his mind

why is everyone so crazy about this song? its garbage, trash, its not even a song. why does everyone make a big deal about it?

    i dont get it

There were MANY highlights of Boston III in 2003. Hell, they played 45 songs. Arc was THE highlight for me. Maybe if you had heard it live you would feel differently.

Ed's voice is what has and continues to draw me to Pearl Jam. The lower note he sang shook 20,000 peoples chest and his wailing was so emotional. One of the most powerful musical moments I've ever seen.

    The song is awesome.

Good display of Eddie's vocals. Wish I could be at these West Coast shows to hear it live. From what I've heard, It is absolutley amazing.

This thread has now gone on for 9 pages...cool.

it is obvious that you just don't get it. this is NOT filler. It has more meaning that perhaps any song on any other album does. it is a tribute to those 9 lives that were lost.

If you want filler, you can find plenty of it on vitalogy. but Arc is NOT filler.

There is NO filler on Vitalogy, I wish all you ignorant narrow minded douche bags would realize it. Fucking use your brain AND heart to listen to the songs. Bugs should have opened EV's solo tour just to shut casual fans like you up. Vitalogy represents what Pearl Jam is about probably more than any other album and if you can;t get that maybe Creed or Nickelback is more your speed, no filler, lol

  • After seeing it done live with the layered loops being done right in front of you...you would see how fucking awesome it is.

I think I counted 8 tracks being looped. Anybody else have any thoughts on the number of tracks he lays down.

leave that album space open to bring back a song like GIRL. a bad ass song that has never really seen the light of day. id much rather have a studio version of GIRL than ARC.

Yeah because Girl would fit right in on Riot Act.

    Arc is a great song.

________^^^^^^^ (old quotes don't work properly)_____________

I Came here because Arc was brought up in another thread, and I was curious and did a search for the song to see what people have said about it .... and then I saw this post. Wtf is Girl?? Is that some improv I've never heard of?

I dunno, maybe... the person said it was a song that never really saw the light of day. Just A Girl was a bonus track for Ten, wasn't it?

Came to see if people think it's musically inspired by Native American music or something else.

I always thought it was maybe more Lebanese influenced:

Aside from the fact that the lyrics are "ooooooo ahhhh" or whatever, lol, I don't hear any stylistic similarity between that and Arc at all, personally.

Now I see why this thread was brought back up, nice read, very funny comments, specially the one about van gogh... last saturday, I watched Live at the garden, top volume: regardless the meaning of arc, and how good Ed is, the track is superb, it's nice to hear singers singing, and singing only, no music, just the voice, and great way to open the DVD giving way to Love Boat Captain, totally kills it... and since we are into it, I love Aye Davanita, and the one after All those yesterdays, I like Hey foxymophandlemama, that's me, I enjoy litening to it from time to time, but I enjoy Revolution Nº 9 better, Bugs is a killer, Vitalogy is my all time fav PJ album... by the way, I'm Argentinian, English is not my native language, my English is no good, I try my best, but there was a time when English was all Greek to me, not in the way it is for Dimitris, but still, I didn't understand a word, but that didn't refrain me from listening to The Beatles, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, INXS, U2, The Cure, Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and all that came after, the English language wasn't an impediment to enjoy music in general, I still don't have very good listening skills so I need the lyrics, but not knowing the lyrics adds some sort of mystery to the song, and don't be surprised, but there are some Spanish speaking music I like, and there are some I don't, and I'm sure it happens everywhere...
... I am not in the business of being liked anymore ...
