"I will promise you this, that if we have not gotten our troops out by the time I am president, it is the first thing I will do. I will get our troops home. We will bring an end to this war. You can take that to the bank." - Barack Obama
when you told me 'if you can't beat 'em, join 'em'

How did he win.....twice? How?
But...but......
Ever hear of hanging chads.........
Florida GAVE it to him the first time.
The second time was dumb, and I do mean dumb luck.

actually, the 1st time was because of the supreme court. florida law said there HAD to be a recount but the republicans went to court to overrule state law....then a year or so later when the democrats went to court to try and block the california governor recall the republicans cried that you can't use the judicial system to overrule state law.....go figure

i agree, but florida law says if an election is decided by a certain amount, i think it was <0.5%?, there must be a statewide recount. there's just far too much shit that went on in florida from chads to selective recounts, to people doing their best to sabotage it to people being denied their right to vote....
i remember when it was all going on and so many called gore a crybaby, why the hell shouldn't we be absolutely certain???

That was one of the many frustrating parts of this. The press declared bush the winner of Florida, so then it looked like Gore was a whiner and "Sore Loserman". If you've noticed, it looks like the press has been slower to call states since then. They also wait to call states until polls are closed on the West coast. It was a perfect intro for Bush and the following 8 year debacle. I think the history books will do a good job on this situation as well as Bush's f-ups.

I agree, it really set a precedent for a lot of shenanigans to be allowed to go on with one of our most important rights. The thing that scared me is that no one seemed to mind all the flakey activity affecting votes. The right to vote is the basis of a democracy. It was the beginning of many actions that made a mockery of our constitutional rights.

Watch Bush check his watch right at the begining, then it gets real weird.
