HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Police say two hearing-impaired men were stabbed at a bar when their sign language was mistaken for gang signs.
Court records show that 45-year-old Barbara Lee and 19-year-old Marco Ibanez are facing aggravated battery charges in the Saturday night attack in Florida.
Both are jailed Monday and records did not show an attorney for either of them.
Police say the men were using sign language to communicate when Lee allegedly confronted them with complaints they were flashing gang signs.
Police say Lee left and returned with Ibanez and a juvenile and attacked the men, a bystander and a bar bouncer. Police say none of their injuries are life-threatening.

Great article.
Thanks for sharing.
Also, my intention is not to make fun of people as in pointing and whispering with ones friends. My intention is to shed light on the absurd.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A Centers for Disease Control blog post mentioning a "zombie apocalypse" as a lighthearted way to get Americans to read about preparing for the hurricane season drove so much traffic that it crashed the website, the center said on Thursday.
The Zombie Apocalypse campaign is a social media effort by the CDC's Public Health and Preparedness center to spread the word about preparing for the June 1 start of hurricane season.
"There are all kinds of emergencies out there that we can prepare for," the blog post starts innocently enough. "Take a zombie apocalypse for example ... You may laugh now, but when it happens you'll be happy you read this, and hey, maybe you'll even learn a thing or two about how to prepare for a real emergency."
The timing of the blog was just days before the prediction of the May 21 "Judgment Day" by an evangelical broadcaster.
"If you prepare for the zombie apocalypse, you'll be prepared for all hazards," CDC spokesman Dave Daigle told Reuters over the phone on Thursday.
The word zombie comes from voodoo practice of spirit possession where "zombies" are stripped of consciousness.
Zombies became popular culture references after the success of George Romero's 1968 horror film "Night of the Living Dead" where flesh-eating zombies roam the eastern seaboard in the aftermath of radioactive contamination.
Daigle said that a typical CDC blog post might get between 1,000 and 3,000 hits. The most traffic on record had been a post that saw around 10,000 visits.
By the end of Wednesday, with servers down, the page had 60,000. By Thursday, it was a trending topic on Twitter.
The campaign was designed to reach a young, media-savvy demographic that the CDC had not been able to capture before, Daigle said.
Increased traffic did not effect the main CDC website.

Catholic schools in Ontario ban rainbows

While most people may see rainbows as a good sign because the rain is ending, some Catholic schools in Ontario have banned visual references to the iconic colourful arch.
Leanne Iskander, 16, tells Xtra that the Dufferin-Peel Catholic School Board prevented her group from displaying any rainbows at their information booth during an anti-homophobia event last week.
Iskander is the founder of the unofficial gay-straight alliance at St. Joseph Catholic School in Mississauga.
"We brought signs and posters with rainbows, and we were told we can't put them up," says Iskander to Xtra. "They said rainbows are associated with Pride. There's so many other things that a rainbow could be. It's ridiculous."
But this did not stop the group from showing a rainbow. They baked cupcakes with different colour icing and displayed them on the table so it resembled a rainbow. Better yet, when people bit into the cupcake, there was a rainbow of colours inside.
By selling the cupcakes at 50 cents each, the group raised $200 for charity. However the school would not allow the group to donate the money to the charity of their choice, which was the LGBT Youth Line.
"We were told to donate to Covenant House, a Catholic homeless shelter," says Iskander to Xtra.
Over the years, rainbows have been associated with many different things. The symbol was God's promise to Noah in the Torah, what Nelson Mandela used to describe South Africa and if there are two of them, it can be an insanely popular Internet meme.
Iskander's gay-straight alliance group is unofficial because such groups are not allowed in Catholic schools, even though they exist in public schools. The Board recently began allowing anti-bullying clubs, but Iskander says this is not enough.
She is planning to bring her fight to this summer's Pride parade in Toronto as part of the newly-formed Catholic Students for GSAs (gay-straight alliances). She says her principal doesn't mind the students marching in Pride, they just can't say what school they represent.
"Some people think by now allowing anti-bullying clubs, the issue is over," Iskander says to Xtra. "But it's not."
In the future if the Board listens to the students and allows GSAs, maybe they will also lift the ban on rainbows.

Police let air out of apparent traffic scam
Police said they caught a man driving in the HOV lane in Oakville Wednesday with a blow-up doll in the passenger seat.
Ontario Provincial Police said a driver phoned police to say it looked like the car didn't qualify to be in the high-occupancy lane.
Burlington OPP Constable Graham Williamson said the car was headed eastbound on the Queen Elizabeth Way near Guelph Line during Wednesday morning's rush hour. When officers pulled the vehicle over, an inflatable doll dressed in a jacket and cap, was found buckled in the passenger's seat.
"It was quite garish," Williamson said. "It was really quite crude."
The driver was charged with improper use of the HOV lane.
Williamson said it was the first time he has heard of someone trying to fake their way into the HOV lane since the lanes opened through Oakville in November.
However, he is not surprised that it did happen.
"This is the first time that I am aware that we have actually had this happen," he said. "That is not to say that it isn't happening more often."
