For all the whining about how DOMA was voted for by a "bipartisan majority" and "signed by President Clinton," most of the people who were instrumental in bringing it in now admit it was just a way to humiliate the president and that it was a mistake.
And for all the panicking about how repealing the DOMA would "destroy marriage" or stop straight people from having children... like... really?

i think it's so completely wrong for a government to try and control what your sexual persuasion is, whom you choose to marry, and what you do in your PERSONAl time!!!
i couldn't give two shits what any of you did your personal time, it's none of my business. and it sure as shit ain't anyones business in politics.
has DOMA really worked anyway? isn't it something like >50% of marriages end in divorce?i know i was born and i know that i'll die the inbetween is mine ---------------------------------------------------- FEB 11, 13, 14 Sydney 2003 NOV 7, 8, 18, 2006 Sydney NOV 20, 2009 Melbourne NOV 22, 2009 Sydney NOV 25, 2009 Brisbane MAR 18 & 19 2012 Sydney EV Solo JAN 26, 2014 Sydney FEB 12 & 14 2014 Sydney EV Solo0 -
it is funny to me that an entire government will work to defend the institution of marriage when over 50% of individual couples' marriages fail for some reason. i say let DOMA expire. discrimination should not be the law, and the law should not allow for discrimination in this way.."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

Oh look, I know I'm an asshole but I get a big kick out of pointing out to my parents that I've been with my husband for 19 years and my sister has been through countless husbands, boyfriends and baby-daddies.
My mother made some comment about how her latest wedding was so nice and it was too bad I didn't go and I said, "well, maybe I'll go to the next one."
She didn't think it was as funny as I did.0
