Local Paper Talks Crap About EV Album

It's obvious they are talking out of their ass. Obviously any ill-informed idiot can buy a printing press now days. Ed's solo songs are some of my favorite songs ever, apparently this person has never listened to any of them.Hearts and thoughts they fade....
fade away...
I am at peace with my lust.....for Eddie.0 -
Loulou wrote:I agree. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I think it will sound beautiful if it sounds like previous Uke songs he's come out with. I know some people say they wouldn't see Ed's solos because they are not PJ and I couldn't agree more. I think I get something different from listening to PJ than I do listening to Ed by himself. There is a different vibe, PJ makes me feel one way and Ed's solo music makes me feel another. There's plenty of room for both.Kilgore_Trout wrote:this is about the reaction i expected from the general public... a uke album from a punk rock guy honestly does read as a joke to anyone that doesn't know any PJ songs but the hits... don't take it personally
if the album compares to songs like "goodbye" and "soon forget" it should hopefully silence the haters
i'm looking forward to something mellow to fall asleep to or have a glass (bottle) of wine

the bitchfork crowd is the most closed minded group of music listeners. they don't do their research, so they don't know that Eddie has been using a Uke for over 10 years on/at Pearl Jam (and non-Pearl Jam) albums/shows.
this angers me, not just as a Pearl Jam fan, but a fan of music.

Exactly my thoughts. I can see how this may not appeal to some of the Pearl Jam fan base, but on the other hand it may appeal to a new and different demographic---I think the 30ish to 50ish women's demographic is gonna love this stuff!! Myself included.0 -

Hey! I'm not 30-50 and I don't even know what Starbucks is but I like it!“ "Thank you Palestrina. It’s a wonderful evening, it’s great to be here and I wanna dedicate you a super sexy song." " (last words of Mark Sandman of Morphine)

Yep, I agree... It's not like he decided to pick it up and release an album all of a sudden.. He's been playing the shit out of a uke for years.. this is an instrument he loves to play, so let him create and play, music is what he does....1998 Dallas (7/5) 2006 San Fran (7/15,7/16) 2009 San Fran (8/28) 2010 Bristow (5/13) NY (5/21) 2011 Alpine Valley (9/3,9/4)

To me, that article reads far more more like an insult to Scott Stapp, and the ukulele, than to Ed. One of those insults would be deserved, the other is harsh...

What I got out of that article...and the posts here is...
I hope none of you ever become famous because if you are searching out every little article about you and expecting everyone to be full of nothing but praise....you won't last long.
I will never understand the weird mindset here where fans jump all over anyone that doesn't think PJ shits pure gold. Yet, PJ fans are some of the biggest douchebags to other bands. I don't get it.
Anyhow, I'm looking forward to the album and don't care what anyone else says, I'll just make up my own mind after listening to it.hippiemom = goodness0 -
The writer just comes off as a closed minded douche.0

I'm a little surprised by some of this thread... not that much by the writer who wrote the comment in the free paper. I'm just surprised that the idea of Eddie putting out a Uke album is news to anybody. A lot of these songs have been floating around for years. The first time I ever heard Can't Keep was in its uke version which dates back to what? 2002? Between PJ albums, bootlegs and Into the Wild we should all know what Eddie sounds like with the uke. Either you like it and want the new CD (like I do!) or it's not for you. But it's not really shocking that he's doing this.0

PureandEasy wrote:To be honest, I'm not all that thrilled about a Uke album either. I mean I'm sure some of the songs will be lovely, but let's face it, there is only so much sound you can get out of a uke, how different could the songs be?
Ed's voice is the main instrument on the album. The songs will be different......
The Uke is there to give rhythm and a foundation for him to sing.
Sure it may be more prominent on some songs, but I'll be getting this 100% for the voice...0 -

yeah...a uke album just sounds funny...but Ed can tear a uke the fuck up, and i have no doubts the new album is going to be awesome.0

what do you mean " Another solo record I'll be skipping"?!! If you skipped ITW then you are NUCKING FUTS!!!!!!!!0 -
crazy breed is spot on. ITW is brilliant. top notch songwriting - overall a great album.
"ed's not that good" is a strange comment. he's not jake shimabukuro, nor taimane, brittni paiva or james hill or aldrine guerero (those are more top notch ukers, btw), but that's like saying he can't play guitar like mike - of course he can't. who can? has ed ever melted anyone's face off with a guitar solo? his often imitated never duplicated vocals are what pull us all in, and his playing, whatever he's playing (guitar, mando, uke, etc) is solid. the playing on 'can't keep' is a tricky little fingering, and speedy, but the same thing 3 times over. shit, i can play it, but sure as hell can't sing it.
listen to the plucking little ditti he plays during the videos' intro b4 'cant keep' starts - that is not easy. it speaks to how comfortable he is with a uke in his hands. so psyched to see him live this summer, and see fellow 10clubbers too.uke can save the world0
