word is the just finished recording it. There was a post somewhere by their manager saying he just received the final version and said it is different, like all incubus albums before it have been different from their predecessor. No word on a release date but I do believe I heard "summer" somewhere
I completely retract my last statement. This album is terrible. Just when I think this is a band that can do no wrong, they release this sack of shit album. It truly is the worst music I've heard in a long time. Brandon Boyds solo album had 3X more punch and energy than this. Hell, his solo album even sounds more like Incubus than this new album.
It honestly sounds like incubus watched lion king 3 times in a row and somehow thought it would be a great idea to make an album that's a soundtrack for a Disney movie made for 8 yr olds. It's fucking terrible. I seriously think this album leak is a joke and the band is laughing at all the people who downloaded it early.

Hopefully this is an overreaction. Like I said I will be listening to it today so I will let you all know. I read some stuff Brandon has said recently about the album, and the tone and thoughts that were occurring with the album, so I am prepared for it to be lighter, more musical, and "their least heavy rock album" yet (according to Brandon)
EDIT - here is a link to a write up about the album Brandon did. Some interesting stuff, I'll give some opinions later as I've only reached track 2 at the moment

Iit was a bit of an over reaction. Mainly because Incubus is one of my favorite bands and I really didn't think they could ever make a bad album. But this album truly is horrible.

damnnnn man...this is notttt what i expected to hear! hopefully its not that bad! i thought adolescents was sick
2006: Hartford
2008: MSG 1, Hartford, Mansfield 2, Ed Solo NYC 1
2009: London (O2), Philly 1, 2, 3, & 4
2010: Hartford, Boston, MSG 1 & 2
2011: Ed Solo Hartford
2012: Philly (MIA Fest)
2013: Worcester 2, Brooklyn 1 & 2, Hartford
Adolescents is the best song on the album. Whats bad about that is, every other song isn't "a little worse". They're all much worse and sound nothing like that song.

as someone who loves the band just as much as you this hurts....i truly am having trouble picturing them do anything bad

I'm in the same boat as you. I love incubus and I thought it was impossible for them to make a bad album, but they did. This got me more worried about Soundgarden personally. They're another band I think can't makea bad album, but if incubus did it, than they can too I guess.
I'm listening to it for a 2nd time (had to force my self a bit) and its just really boring. Every single song is soft on the album, and while some arent that bad, the fact that there are ZERO heavy songs, just makes the "not bad" songs worse because thats all the album is. If there were a few heavy songs, then the ok songs would be better.
OK, there is one song that is remotely "heavy" but even that has acoustic guitars and a god awfully cheesy chorus.
ok, so here is my opinion after 1.5 listens (which means it is far from a final opinion)....
First off, it's not terrible. Slightly disappointing - yes, but not terrible. There are some major things lacking in my opinion. First off, Kilmore seems to have traded in his turntables for a piano/keys/B3 for good. I don't mind this at all but that alone will alter the tone of the music.
This album really seems like a showcase for Brandon. Vocals are all over every song, which takes away a lot from the PUNCH of the music, especially from a band like Incubus. Lyrically, some of the songs are very very good, but vocally he seems to drag on and on at points and he consumes the majority of the songs, which is good and bad at points.
Another area that lacks is the rhythm section. Ben and Jose are such a strength of the bad, but here they just kind of play along. Ben's basslines drive the majority of the songs, but they aren't exciting. There were very few moments that really impressed me, where on past albums I was blown away with some of his work. Same for Jose, and even worse. There is basically no exciting moments for him all album, save for a little on adolescents. Being that the album is lighter, warmer, etc, etc, they seem to be on a leash a little bit.
Same goes for Mike and his guitars. Most of the songs have very light guitar, and are driven by bass instead. No powerful chords here basically at all. I also think that his Harvard music stuff may have gotten to him a bit as he seems to try and impress with some other areas, but it falls a little short IMO.
Having said all of that, it's not bad, and it's already growing on me in certain areas. It definitely wasn't what I had hoped for though, it seems as much more of a "winter" album than a summer album if that makes any sense. Adolescents seems to be the best track right now, but then again it is the only song I have heard more than twice, so we will see.
Anyone else that's listened let me know what you think please.
the whole Jose and Ben thing is completely right. Jose is such a strong drummer and great aspect to the band, but there is nothing here that lets him do his thing. In fact, you could say that for nearly everyone in the band other than Brandon. Thats why I dont even think it sounds like Incubus, but a solo album by Brandon.
but you cant deny that the opening song sounds like a freakin disney song for 8 year olds. Awful, awful song.

I don't really get the connection between them and Soundgarden. B/c they're you're favorite current band?
I made a thread about it awhile ago. They both evolved very similarly and have a very distinct sound. No other bands sound like either of them.
