Fate and an Argument

oh cruel cruel Fate,
despite the fact that the symbols speak to me on occasion
I may ignore them now because I'm tired of reading so many signs!
why not simply ring the bell and stand on the doorstep instead?
why not use the old-modern technology that is a phone?
despite the fact that the symbols do hold meaning sometimes,
I may ignore them now because it's less painful to me
why make me work this hard only to tell me it's never enough?!
didn't YOU get the memo that the symbols alone are not enough?
after all this time, a rose in a live hand would have served the purpose better
than a note with squiggles, curves, and slashes
