The socks talk reminds me of something that was said to me in a redneck logger town I lived in. Was walking past a young adult sitting in a parked car in a parking lot and he yelled out to me, "hey buddy! Sandals and socks don't work!" I gave him the thumbs up and a smile and he yelled back, "No!!" with a thumbs down.
Gotta love getting fashion advice from a logger's kid.
