    Hello fellow Jammers,
    I need your advice.

So my boyfriend of over a year is very opposite of me. We have very little in common except we both love the ocean.

One major thing that we did/do not agree on is music-- he loves country music, I have learned to like it and tried hard to overcome my dislike of country, and found it is no so bad.

In turn, I hoped he would embrace my music as well, no dice, we watched touring fans and did not like it at all other than the few songs he already knows (betterman, daughter). But the more harder songs he can't stand.
I want him to like it at least a little so he can enjoy a show in the future.
    Any suggestions?
I would stick with EV solo, coming from country he will appreciate that and may grow to love it.
Maybe catch an EV solo show.

Eventually he might want to see PJ and share that with you.....

But the different drummer thing is huge for some people and country is so laid back
I don't think there would be a whole lot of PJ fans that would want to sit through a country concert
    so it goes both ways.
Like a person is out of their element or comfort zone.

You may need to go with the girls to PJ ...fun!

I'm pretty sure Willie, Hank, A lot of Uncle Neil, Cash and Waylon could be added to that list.
A little bit of Bob Dylan also.

Damn, of course. How could I forget Dylan
I was wondering the same thing. The late 60s/early 70s stuff is pretty damn good.

Take him to a show. If he walks out of a PJ show unimpressed then maybe you should dump him. :D;)

it's hard to crack someone's musical taste

    especially country fans, ughhhh

however, i do have one success story

my DIL listens to 80s pop, the REALLY bad stuff

and she spent a few years making fun of me and basically dissing pj with all her might

    UNTIL...

(my son is an avid pj fan) we took her to MSG last may....

and that was all she wrote

i can't say that she sits round listening to pearl jam all day ..she certainly does not

but she no longer teases me about pj

matter of fact, a MAJOR slip up for her a couple of months ago..

when she said to me, re: eddie...."he is quite handsome, i can see that at least"

major, major breakthrough there, you have no idea

BUT she is trailing along to the Tres Mts show in Philly next week

so i'd say i've succeeded in creating at least a Closet PJ Fan

    so there is hope

(if i have to suffer through xanadu one more time i just might puke)
    peace,
    jo

Ten, Live On 2 Legs and Yield were my first PJ cds. It hooked me.

I had to convert my wife over, but she didn't really have any specific tastes. I was past my major PJ stage so it was basically just trying to get her to enjoy good rock music that has some substance. At first I felt like she was just fakin it for me, but eventually she started pointing out albums for me to take a closer look at. Now it's almost like having an extra set of ears.

Didn't Mike play some guitar on a few songs on some newer country singers album? I know I've seen some live footage of it. I'd track that down and maybe bridge the gap.

If he likes country, the first song I would play is:

    Off He Goes

    Followed by:

    Fatal

    Followed by:

    Into the Wild (entire Album)

if he isn't interested, don't push any further...

What I've found is that if someone is into music, just hasn't had much exp with PJ...then you take them to a live show.
I know a couple of people who have been to a live show for the first time and now they are huge fans.

Im telling ya, it will create an association between pearl jam and something he probably likes more than any ole music. ;)

But then again, he might think you are nuts!
