2011 Japan Earthquake/Tsunami Information

I've briefly looked and haven't found any threads containing information on how we might be able to contribute to the relief, rescue, and recovery efforts which are currently ongoing in Japan following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

Locate Affected People

Google has created a tool to assist in locating people within Japan. You can find it here:

This tool is available in other languages as well.

Charitable Giving

This website is a kind of guide to charitable giving. It may be of some assistance if you're unfamiliar with what to do and how to go about doing it.

If anyone knows of further legitimate charities or organizations please post links to them in this thread.

Additionally, if anyone knows of additional tools to locate individuals affected by this disaster, please post those as well.

If you do choose to donate to the relief, rescue, and recovery efforts, please double check the legitimacy of the organization you are donating to. Scams pop up by the thousand in times like these.

This post/thread is apolitical. Please keep it that way.

I heard on the radio that the Red Cross does NOT want people going there to help, that they need donations.

I saw this posted on my school's website:

o Explore.org is donating $1 for every “Like” of the “Dog Bless You” Facebook page, up to $100,000, to the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation, who has a dog rescue team in Japan.

    #Hinan: evacuation information

#311care: a hashtag regarding medical information for the victims
