Aussie tour - a request for the fans

So there's a few people asking Ed to do something for them.

I'd like to ask something else of the people attending the shows.

No, not to avoid heckling, I pretty much expect and accept it. Doing it with a great sense of humour, like Dale did, would be just fine by me, even adds to the show.

But my request...

For the love of god, please...

STAND THE FUCK UP DURING THE ROCKIN' SONGS!!!!!!!

Thanks.

I get that it's a sitting thing for the majority of the set, but there's a couple of numbers where it's just, in my not so humble opinion, to stay rooted to your seat!

Especially when the house lights come on. An easy cue if there ever was one.

He didn't seem to mind yesterday with me. And the day before, when it was so stiff he felt the need to gesture 8 of the more energetic people, including some of me mates, to jump on stage to rile the crowd up.

Mind, I'm specifically talking about the ROCKIN' songs. Lukin. Porch. I didn't exactly stand for the whole of UK, though I could've (should've) done so for more than just the one line. And Hard Sun... not exactly rockin', but come on, it's house lights on, if yas are gonna get up for a standing ovation, it just means standing up 4 minutes earlier!

I enjoy music sitting down just as much as standing up, it really depends on the vibe of the music and the crowd as to what works best.

At the PJ '03 gig in Sydney I was stuck in a section of people who were glued to their seats, I stood up saying to those around me "we're at a fucking rock concert" but they were all unmoved and I was really just preventing people behind me from seeing. I sat down, still enjoyed the show, but the atmosphere was pretty dull.

Same thing with Page & Plant back in the mid 90's, although when they got started almost everyone stood up. I was right near the stage for this one though as opposed to the crappy seats I had for PJ '03.

For these gigs I actually think seated works better, there's no band, no drums, bass, etc driving the body to stand up. It's just one guy (mostly) on stage and it's a more cerebral than physical experience (for me). In these situations standing up works fine if everyone does it, but if everyone behind you is sitting down you're really just in the way. Some of the most intense live music experiences I've had are in a room full of people silent, seated, and focussed on the music of one guy (or girl) and a guitar.

that would suck. I hate sitting at a show. I ALWAYS Stand up at every concert and then I went to Queens Of the stone Age and the venue SUCKED, the seated section was done so that you cant stand up without blocking everyone behind you. Its fricken hard to stay sitting during QOTSA. Never seating a concert again. THE PIT IT IS!
Pearl Jam Pearl Jam Pearl Jam!

I'm looking to buy a single ticket to Ed's Sydney Opera House show, PM me if you've got a spare! I don't care where the seat is! :D

I stood up at QOTSA too, I wouldn't expect to be sitting at one of their gigs, nor a PJ gig, or any rock gig with a full band. But it's totally different to see mellower music with just one person on stage who is probably sitting down too.

There's more than one type of gig, and there's more than one way to enjoy those gigs too.

just stand the fuck up.... For at least Porch and Hard Sun. Ed encouraged it on those 2 songs especially
    2003 - Sydney x3,
    2006 - Reading Festival,
2007 - Katowice, London, Nijmegen, Rock Werchter,
    2008 - MSG x2, Hartford, Mansfield x2, Beacon Theater,
    2009 - Melbourne, Sydney,
2010 - I watched it go to fire!
    2011 - EV Brisbane x3, Newcastle, Sydney x3,
    2012 - Manchester x 2, Amsterdam x2, Prague, Berlin x2, Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen,
    2014 - Sydney, EV Sydney x3

I wave to all my Friends... Yeah!

So I take it then it's ok to stand during the more rockin songs e.g lukin, porch ect. I've got front row seats in Melbourne and I don't want to piss anybody off behind me, but I'd be inclined to stand up at any opportunity. I suppose I'll see how the night progresses and what others around me are doing.

I do too, 'specially when there's rockers being played. Very hard to sit on one's arse when one wants to get up and jump around!

Ed definetly wanted the crowd to stand for porch and hard sun.

Yay for everyone who didnt need to be told.
