I haven't started a "list" or "ranking" thread for a while. Here's one: name your 10 favorite albums of the 1960s, no more than one per artist.
We'll do more decades in the coming weeks. Have fun!

That's the idea. Will come in handy for the 90s & 00s lists around here.
I thought I'd be the only one with Black Saint & Sinner Lady.

Hell yeah...check it out! If you like early electric Dylan, you'll dig this. Michael Bloomfield's guitar playing is far too frequently overlooked (not by Dylan, though, as he's all over the Hwy 61 Revisited and Blonde on Blonde albums)
1. Revolver- The Beatles
2. Blonde on Blonde- Bob Dylan
3. Their Satanic Majesties Request- The Rolling Stones
4. Everyone Knows This Is Nowhere- Neil Young and Crazy Horse

8. Buffalo Springfield Again- Buffalo Springfield
9. Axis: Bold of Love - Jimi Hendrix Experience
10. Led Zeppelin- Led Zeppelin
Some of my favorite albums ever were released in 1970 (so they just missed making my list: Bitches Brew by Miles Davis, Deja Vu by CSNY, Plastic Ono Band by John Lennon, and All Things Must Pass by Harrison). And Miles Davis' Kind of Blue just missed since it came out in 59.

I was thinking that. I love to look at when albums were recorded based on their release, especially when albums are "shelved" for a long period of time. For example, I had no clue that Dylan's Basement Tapes was from '67 (not '75 like its release date) until years after I first heard the record. When I found out it made obvious sense but I just never realized.

Well, the official Basement Tapes release was a bastardized version. Overdubs were added to some of the Dylan tunes in the 70's and most of the Band material is not from the basement at all, but formal studio recordings made here and there from 67 to as late as 75. It's still a great listen, albeit somewhat misleading. To get a real feel for what the sessions at Big Pink really sounded like, there are plenty of bootlegs available on various websites. Do a search for "Genuine Basement Tapes"

Johnny Cash ~ At Folsom Prison
Neil Young ~ Everybody Knows this is Nowhere

Rolling Stones ~ Let it Bleed

I got the 4 CD A Tree with Roots that supposedly is every Basement Tape Recording. Not sure if it has overdubs though. Only gave it one listen so far. My problem with Dylan is that there is so much that I feel I don't have time to listen to all of it along with everything else

I had thought Bitches Brew was from 1969; however I think it's just overrated.

Me too. I'd drop the Moody Blues and add Os Mutantes self titled. Brazillian Psychedelic at it's best.
Maybe add Etta James, but I wouldn't know what to drop.

Yeah, I've got that one and it's great. It really taps into just about every type of American music up to that point.
