2 seats away from Howard Zinn in a blond wig and fake mustache with a baseball hat on! Theo Epstein.

my wife noticed first.toward the end of the show she told these two guys sitting next to us with BoSox hats on and they got all giddy and left early while Ed was still singing to shake Theo's hand.

I didn't really care.I wanted to shake Howard's hand but he exited stage left and i didn't get the chance (that bummed me out) but it was cool to see him there (they were both like 12 feet away from me)

I know. I'm sure he'd love being hounded all night long and not be able to enjoy the show.

I'd imagine he's known only as Theo in Boston. But this is the pearl jam message board. the only ones we're on a first name basis with here are the band members, Brendan O'Brien, and of course, Chris Cornell

Maybe I just don't get it really. I guess it's different in Boston? I mean, here in NY, Brian Cashman could walk the streets naked and no one would care it's him. Is Theo really that big of a star in Boston?

yea, those boston sports fans are a bit kooky.

If by 'kooky' you mean completely out of their minds!! :D In a mostly endearing way, however, and the Sox fans I knew were all very supportive of my Tigers' bid for the Series win a couple of years ago. (they lost though, then the Sox took my very favorite, Sean Casey - but no hard feelings)

There was a pretty big trade that went down this week. I'm sure there are some people who would like to ask Theo a question or two about it.
“I know this song so well, I can smoke a cigarette, have a drink, brush my teeth, take a shit, and mow the lawn while singing it. But I'll only be doing a couple of those things during this version.”

I think part of it is just because Boston doesn't really have that many big name celebrities. Most are associated with sports teams, especially the sox. In New York, or LA celebrities have more privacy because people are more accustomed to seeing them. In Boston, these people will be mobbed. Or maybe he was trying to be respectful to Eddie and not draw attention away from him. Also, I would probably avoid Brian Cashman if he was walking down the street naked, or anyone sporting their birthday suit for that matter.

    true

a lot of people see him as the reason why we have 2 championships and they seem to sweat him like a rock star or something.

Theo's cool in my book but i just wanted to meet Zinn.

I can't believe that I had better seats than Theo!

Then again, I didn't just pay $7 million to give away a future Hall of Famer.
(Manny had to go, but it's still too bad that it came to that.)

There were about three dozen people standing out behind the Opera House as Theo left (without his disguise) and nobody said much of anything, other than "good trade, Theo."
    10/96 Hartford, 9/98 Hartford, 7/03 Mansfield I, 9/04 Boston I, 5/06 Boston I (Best crowd to date)
