No, they didn't. My understanding is that was more the white house trying to suck up to them... much like the first two wasted years of attempts at "bipartisanship"
this is what i recall reading as well. there were many in the white house and many in the press corps that wanted npr to have helen thomas' seat, and were absolutely dead set against fox getting it.
I could be wrong, but I don't believe that the White House had anything to do with it. I believe the White House Correspondent's Association makes the picks and the association is made up of journalists.
I would be very surprised if Obama's team had anything to do with it, especially since they were trying to discredit Fox a few months prior.
