Wow 1% makes it sound really low still though. I wonder what the percentage is of CDs and digital though.

Tapes are actually making a comeback. More and more releases on smaller labels are being released on very limited cassettes, kind of like records were before it got extremely trendy.

The labels need to come down on their prices a bit if they want vinyl to ever be more than a niche though. I spent $30 on Brothers and it hurt me. Freaking Odelay was $100! Great album but that's ridiculous! I'd imagine your typical 17-year old would much rather just download for free or $9.99 on iTunes.

$30 is a lot for a record. I usually keep my threshold at the $21 mark and it sucks that it's that high for some stuff. All in all very happy to see newer bands embracing the vinyl format and seeing that there is a demand. $17-$20 should get you the album and a free digital download of it, but not complaining too much at the moment, i think it might come down in time...just happy to see people buying wax.

You and me both bro. The girlfriend constantly complains about the size of my vinyl collection.

Handed down from my pops I think I'm coming up on 350-400? I should do a count.

Cassettes are horrible. I can't believe Pearl Jam is charging some astronomical amount for that self pollution cassette in that deluxe box set thing.

Well, that's interesting, just started buying vinyl recently (my roommate bought a record player) and Abbey Road was the first one I bought.

Pretty much, and those are the same people who are somewhat responsible for the rise of vinyl sales and why every "indie" band now releases everything on vinyl.
Maybe if they move to a new format 7" will no longer cost $7

Amen. So you're picking the lesser of two evils? Hey, in all fairness, there are some pretty cool hats out there. :?

A certain level of flop in the back of the hat is alright, but not so much where one is adjusting it every 6 seconds so it's 'just so'.

Glad to see this. I got back into vinyl in the past ten years, and I'm at the point now where if a new release I want is available in vinyl, that's the format I prefer. Nothing like listening to vinyl on headphones....such a rich, full sound! I try explaining to my other music fan friends, but few seem to understand.

Actually, smaller labels generally release vinyl because nobody is buying cd's.

limited vinyl runs is one of the few ways the little guys are able stay afloat.
