ashes

a choir of a thousand angels
one thousand candle flames held high
the sound of endless waves crashing
become a symphonic lullaby
a question asked over and over
you are unprepared for the answers I have to give

as the earth starts to quake beneath you
if one hundred broken mirrors fall
a funhouse maze catastrophe
scatter the pieces of your life
the out of place laughter hides the problem
but you can't hide the pain behind your soft eyes

if everything that you believe in
everything you hold so dear
if all the love you say you're feeling
all go up in flames this night
i'll be standing right where you left me
a fistful of ashes at my side

a fistful of ashes at my side
and eyes full of love that no pain can hide
