If I'm not mistaken a student was recently kicked out for being outed as a homosexual? I could be wrong, but I think that was the details of the article I saw in Salt Lake City Weekly. :?

while no college student should be denied a little nookie....I must say that BYU is admirably unlike all these other schools that allow thiefs, batterers, rapists, etc. to continue to play while "the justice system sorts this out." BTW, this suspension hurts BYU bad.

Not that I would ever go there (grew up Jewish, do not practice any religion now), but I side with BYU on this one. He knew the deal when he went there. I assume he is mormon, and if he is not then why in the world did he even go there? If you go to BYU, you know the policies and you sign on. He went against policy and got nailed. They are a private school and this sort of action is completely their prerogative.

Yeah... I guess if you do go to BYU you should be fully aware of the consequences of 'sinful' coitus.

You know the coach was biting his lip when he had to defend the school and its' policies knowing it could blow his chances of a march run.

DC has lived here longer than me...maybe he can enlighten us...but, it's been my understanding that if you are not an athlete ay BYU then, yes, you're mormon. if you are an athlete, they might let you in to take advantage of your non-mormon talent. jim mcmahon was a utahn but not a mormon, I don't think :?

of course, once you're in provo, the indoctrination is going to be 24/7

    The BYU Honor code:
"As a matter of personal commitment, faculty, administration, staff, and students of Brigham Young University, Brigham Young University—Hawaii, Brigham Young University—Idaho, and LDS Business College seek to demonstrate in daily living on and off campus those moral virtues encompassed in the gospel of Jesus Christ, and will

    Be honest
Live a chaste and virtuous life
Obey the law and all campus policies
    Use clean language
    Respect others
Abstain from alcoholic beverages, tobacco, tea, coffee, and substance abuse
    Participate regularly in church services
Observe the Dress and Grooming Standards
Encourage others in their commitment to comply with the Honor Code"

    — BYU Honor Code Statement

BYU's stated mission "is to assist individuals in their quest for perfection and eternal life." BYU is thus considered by its leaders to be at heart a religious institution, wherein, ideally, religious and secular education are interwoven in a way that encourages the highest standards in both areas.

However, I don't believe you have to be LDS, but upward of 98% of students are LDS.

Yeah I didn't see anything about what the actual violation was? Am I missing something.

It's his own damn fault, play by rules or don't play at all. It's simple really.

you know what's crazy? Lace Dunn from Baylor broke his girlfriend's jaw prior to the start of the season and only missed a couple of games. Baylor is about as Baptist as you can get. so, sex is bad.....but violence is tolerable? hmmm.... :?

I would have been kicked off the team after my first freshman year practice

I don't mean to offend anyone, but I find the mormon religion bizarre. You can't have pre-marital sex but you can have multiple wives???

Too much of any religion is a bad thing IMO

My biggest problem with Mormons is that they won't let their kids play on Sunday. My son has a few Mormon friends and a lot of Sundays he drives us crazy because none of his friends can play. The other day my son said, "Mormons are really good bike riders."

What's the point of college, then?

the bible is all about those submissive wives... sounds fair

this is fuckin nutty... i give BYU props for sticking to the rules at the cost of their season tho... a lot of schools would look the other way just to win

and hey, at least the guy got laid... its not a complete loss for him
