Jack White Says He'll Never Form Another New Band

Singer says that he will either record solo, or with his bands the Raconteurs and the Dead Weather

Jack White has told the British rock magazine Q that he will never form another band, and will spend the rest of his career either playing with his bands the Raconteurs or the Dead Weather, or working as a solo artist. "If I can't say it in any of these bands, then I'll say it by myself," he said.

This declaration comes only three weeks after White announced the end of his most famous band, The White Stripes. Since White is mainly the drummer of the Dead Weather, and the Raconteurs is a collaboration with songwriter Brendan Benson, this effectively means that all material focused on his voice going forward will be released as solo work. It could also mean that whatever White does in the future will not sound much like his music with Meg White in the White Stripes.

In recent years, White has seemed to take a conscious step away from the spotlight. In addition to taking a non-frontman role in the Raconteurs and the Dead Weather, he has spent a great deal of time focused on running his Third Man Records label and working as a producer for artists such as Wanda Jackson and Loretta Lynn.

As long as he continues to make music, I'm cool with whatever he wants to do. 8-) I do wish I could have seen the stripes though.

Yeh, I'm pretty sure he could go in any direction and I'd buy his next album.
Here's a new demo called "in the fire":

  • So happy he hasn't closed the door on new raconteur albums. They are one of the best. Solo would be pretty sweet as well.

Honestly I'm not so crazy about the Raconteurs and Dead Weather. But I'd like to hear Jack do a solo blues record circa 30s/40s Son House and Robert Johnson.
  • im not saying i like everything hes done just because its jack....but i like everythig hes done because its all so good on the ears imo..

solo or band stuff bring it on

Pretty much echoing my thoughts about those two bands there. I don't think either of them give Jack the opportunity to shine as much as he did in The White Stripes.
It's gonna be a glorious day...
  • i swear i read that quote months ago. oh well.

i miss jack as the frontman. the sole frontman. fuck i miss the stripes. jack as the sole songwriter, his howling vocals, shredding guitar. i need that again. if that means solo stuff, that'll do. much as i love the raconteurs and dead weather... i always loved him in the white stripes most. and their live shows... my god they were incredible. :(
Common sense is not so common.

^True, but I hope he continues to do some solo stuff.

I've seen the other bands and they were really good but nothing compares to Jack being the center of attention.

kinda funny when you think about it....
I'll never form another band....I'll just continue to play with the two I'm in, and release solo records.
How could you deprive us like that, Jack? lol
I don't see why solo Jack White couldn't sound exactly like the White Stripes if he wanted it to, and he hired some garage band drummer ;)

thirdmanvault: @exclaimnews @QMagazine FYI, this interview was given months before the Stripes decided to call it a day.

maybe he didn't foresee the breakup at the time of the interview and there's a chance he'll change his mind. :)
