Man, and all this time I thought it was only Glenn Beck and those pesky Tea Partiers spewing this kind of rhetoric.

well there are some VERY strong unions with strong political backing, last election campaign the AFLCIO contributed millions to the democratic party, I am very pro union but I also believe that most unions need a tune up at the upper levels.
Godfather.
The guy said something that was pretty damn stupid. Actually, very stupid given recent events.
I love the comments. I can't stop laughing. It amazes me how incredibly stupid and ignorant some people are. Actually, it doesn't.
so when do the pro-union protestors start showing up with guns??? it hasn't happened yet, and i haven't heard anyone promoting that....at least this is a grassroots thing and not an astroturf movement like those tea party rallies that were promoted by fox news and sponsored by the koch brothers...

The official statement released today from the agency follows a report from "Mother Jones" detailing Cox's response to a tweet from the political magazine regarding riot police possibly being brought in to deal with demonstrators on Saturday
http://technolog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/20 ... ?GT1=43001
I confronted the user, JCCentCom. He tweeted back that the demonstrators were "political enemies" and "thugs" who were "physically threatening legally elected officials." In response to such behavior, he said, "You're damned right I advocate deadly force." He later called me a "typical leftist," adding, "liberals hate police."
Only later did we realize that JCCentCom was a deputy attorney general for the state of Indiana

First, nobody on this board is condoning what this idiots said. Second, we all knew that the civil discourse would soon fade. And, we all know who is more apt to sling loaded barbs. Finally, the posters portraying Walker as Hitler or Mubarak are accurate. Step back a bit form the situation and you will see it. This country, and this system has been screwing the poor, lower-class, and the middle-class for decades. Stagnant wages, a higher cost of living, and tax breaks on the rich, have destroyed the middle class. Those living in poverty has increased, and all the while the wealthy business owners and the corporate Nazis are sending jobs overseas or to Mexico.
Let's wake up.
Only 5 states do not have collective bargaining for educators and have deemed it illegal. Those states and their ranking on ACT/SAT scores are as follows:
South Carolina -50th
North Carolina -49th
Georgia -48th
Texas -47th
Virginia -44th

Maybe the largest stretch to a nazi comparison I have seen in a while, and unfortunately since mid bush people have been accusing everyone of being nazis left right and center. First, no, walker is not acting like Hitler and if you really think so, please explain further how he is acting the leader of the National Socialist party.
This idea that the wealthy are deliberately keeping people poor is so stuipid. It is exactly what Marx and all the conflit theorists would want you to believe. It is a byproduct of capitalism...not the intent of capitalism.
I think that the people of this country will just never agree on any course of action, and because of the hyperbole, like Walker being compared to hitler, discourse will never be civil. I know I usually stop listening when someone compares President Obama, Former President Bush, or anyone else to Adolf f'n Hitler...it is just so far from the truth it is unbelievable.
There is a constant see-saw, republicans get voted in and have their time to screw things up, and then democrats are voted in to screw things up...people just need to come to the realization that no one knows what they are doing and that all programs have benefits and unforeseeable consequences...and that alone is the reason I will never ever ever support anyone who is for expanded federal government...All they do is screw up and waste, and unfortunately in the process hurt millions of people all around the world.

looks like those unions might be beneficial and necessary in those states, and personally, i would be embarrassed if my state ranks that low in anything, especially in education/test scores.
where is the double standard? who is condoning what the guy said? several of us called that guy a moron for saying those things. the teabaggers need to stop it with the victim/inferiority complex. it is very very stale by now....i am waiting for the first "liberal media bias" claim. you want to talk about bias, why is it when 30,000 people show up to protest something every network or news paper does not cover it, but if you get 500 teabaggers showing up to counterprotest suddenly every major paper and network is covering it?
"Well, you tell him that I don't talk to suckas."
I did find that a little strange as well.
As to the other point inmytree made, standardized tests do not tell the entire story...If an area has a terrible education system it is not because of the union or non-union status of the teachers...it is a cultural thing. If standardized tests were a good measure of teaching wouldn't no student left behind be a good program?
This is like saying that unions make policemen better? I think there is a little more to it than that...

grassroots? I don't know about that considering that my union was going to pay me to show up at a support rally in NJ today. They provided transportation and my days wage to protest. Not very grassroots if you ask me. I asked my shop steward if I could get on a Tea Party bus instead and still get paid, he didn't like that answer.

He could have meant that "the troopers are going to throw on your the ground and rough you up."
He could also have meant "the conservatives are going to throw bricks at you"
He could have meant something else.
Either way, it was a pretty daft thing to say although not as daft as "resort to second amendment remedies" or "don't retreat, reload."
I'd like to say "there's no place for language like that in our national debate" but sadly... there is.
yeah thats great...
So Ranking of #45/46 are Unionized and then NJ where I live is #41. This proves nothing.

it may not "prove beyond any doubt" in it's present form but it sure does give me a pretty good reason to think that unionized teachers are maybe "good" for education over all.
And maybe if you came from a state higher than #41, you'd be able to grasp that concept? :ugeek:
I am not buying it, test scores mean d!ck. I know plenty of people that got 100% on the written drivers test but can't drive a car to save their own life.
The educational system is broke in this country, could it be because of unions and how they protect bad teachers?

Capuano is a good guy. All he meant was something akin to "go out and get your hands dirty". Nobody in the crowd he was addressing thought he was inciting violence.
Here's highlights from his speech in Wisconsin, as well as the speeches from 2 other Mass congressmen:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HlA0A2adTA (Capuano is the 2nd speaker)
It should be very clear that he was speaking metaphorically when he said "get a little bloody".
I voted for Capuano in the primary for the Senate race to fill the seat left vacant by Ted Kennedy's passing. If he had won that primary instead of Martha Coakley, I think it would be he, and not Scott Brown, who would be occupying that seat today. So I hope he runs again in 2012. And if Republicans want to use these words against him, be our guest.
It's broke or it's broken?
Anyway... no to both. If it's "broke" that's just fine... public schools shouldn't be a "for profit" enterprise.
And if it's broken it's certainly not because teachers are getting paid just a bit less than they're worth. Your kids are being taught by these people for 30 hours per week. Don't you think that's maybe... a place where you want good, qualified and well-paid people?
