Smashing Pumpkins’ ‘Siamese Dream’ Bassist

Three years ago Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan asked fans to help him find the young girls featured on the cover of Siamese Dream. He now claims one of the girls is the band’s very own bassist.

Corgan revealed the news on his official Twitter page late last night.

“Just found out the weirdest news: our bass player Nicole (@xocoleyf) just admitted she is one of the girls on the cover of Siamese Dream,” he wrote.

“She said she didn’t want us to know because she thought maybe we wouldn’t let her be in the band”

Nicole Fiorentino joined the band last May after Corgan invited interested bassists and keyboard players to an open audition process. Fiorentino’s resume includes work in bands such as Veruca Salt, Spinnerette, Radio Vago, Twilight Sleep and Light FM. She replaced Ginger Pooley who toured with the Pumpkins from 2007-2008.

Siamese Dream was released in 1993 as the band’s follow-up to its 1991 debut, Gish.

Rolling Stone points out that Corgan may be messing with his fans and talking nonsense to get the press talking. The magazine reports that an assistant to the cover photographer Melodie McDaniel claims he’s “pretty sure” the cover photo of the two smiling girls was shot specifically for the album. If that’s true, Fiorentino is probably too old to have been one of the cover girls. Fiorentino was about 14 years old in 1993 (according to her Wikipedia page, she was born in 1979) – and the Siamese Dream girls look like they’re around six or seven years old.

While Rolling Stone’s reporter thinks Fiorentino “bears a strong resemblance” to the girl on the right side of the photo, Spinner thinks she’s the girl on the left. Personally I don’t think she really look like either of the girls.
