NEW YORK (WPIX) — Two TSA employees were arrested and charged Wednesday with stealing up to $160,000 from checked baggage at John F. Kennedy Airport, authorities said.
The agents, identified as Comar Persad, 36, of Queens and Davon Webb, 30, of the Bronx have been charged with grand larceny, possession of stolen property and official misconduct. The two were arrested Wednesday by Port Authority officers.
Officials say the arrests were the result of an investigation launched on Jan 30, the day nearly $40,000 was reported stolen from a check bag. Investigators soon uncovered the crooked pair's operation where one would screen a bag, searching for money, and would then alert the other about the cash. The money was later pocketed once taken to a TSA baggage room for screening.
According to officials, of the nearly $160,000 believed to be stolen, only $39,980 has been recovered.
