Nothing in the last 5-8 yrs has hit me like this band.
I only have Permalight, but i cant get it off of rotation.
Song #8 -- Make a song Destroy, has some of the most amazing hooks i've ever heard.
Very Nada Surfish..
Anybody else a fan? I looked at some youtube videos though, and they seemed a bit rough in the live department.. anyone seen them live??

You should pick up Asleep At Heaven's Gate next. There are some really catchy tracks on there. Lake Michigan is probably their biggest hit (they "performed" it in a Jennifer Aniston movie).
Also, if you can find it, check out the documentary called D Tour - it's all about the drummer's battle with kidney failure while touring. That band has endured some truly awful things.
I'm going to see Zach Rogue open for Ben Gibbard at an all acoustic show in SF in a couple weeks.
Aw man, thats awesome - sounds like a good show in SF!
Thanks I'll check out that documentary and I do need to go back and get prior records.. I'll start with Heavens Gate. Thanks man.
Darthvedder how was that show?
To say the least...in addition to the drummers kidney failure, the bass player tragically died in a house fire, and the lead singer had an illness that caused partial paralysis in his body.
Kicking The Heart Out is one of my favorites from them.
Which one? The Ben Gibbard/Zach Rogue show was amazing. The highlight was watching Zach mouthing the words to Such Great Heights from the V.I.P. section while Ben performed the song onstage.
I honestly don't remember much of what Zach played. I know he played new songs from the Release the Sunbird album that came out later that year. He also played a cover of Buddy Holly's Everyday. I think the highlight for me was him playing Ghost from Asleep At Heaven's Gate. He also played Cheaper Than Therapy.
Agreed on Descended Like Vultures. Solid album.
Cool, yeah I was asking about the solo show. Sounds interesting. I've been wondering why Rogue Wave doesnt play live more often -- sounds like they have a few problems. I havent really gotten into the Sunbird album too much yet, but I may need to try a few more listens.
I also ordered the d-tour doc, but it hasnt arrived yet.
Asleep at Heavens Gate is an album I didnt like at first. Now its one of my favorites all time.
The first track, Harmonium, is an adventure and I wish it would never end...its like 3 songs in 1.
That's the album that got me into them. The first three tracks are amazing. Harmonium sets the tone for what comes after.
They're playing a Noise Pop (local festival celebrating all things indie) show on March 1st in San Francisco. They're only charging 15 bucks! Looking forward to it!

The new album is streaming on pitchfork!

Sounds awesome...I already heard four of the new tracks live at a show they did in SF in March. Can't wait to see them again this summer. Are you going to be able to see them, Jonny?
Nice. I think i'll stream it this afternoon.
Unfortunately, I dont think I'll get the chance to see them live unless they come a bit closer. Thats cool you got to see them!
Ah, I should have checked your location before asking the question. I also didn't know that they're not coming remotely close to the South on their summer tour. Sounds like another band I'm a fan of...
Awesome, I preordered the vinyl, but I got a message from the distributor yesterday saying the quality was sub-par of the pressing, so they are re-doing them and sending them next week or so... So I must wait.
Did you get the CD? or download? There's a few bonus tracks I hear. (including a screaming trees cover)
New album?
I have to get it.
Fuck a tour as well.
NICE, thanks for reviving this thread!
I had some iTunes store credit, so I bought the bonus tracks from there. Then, I went to my local record store and bought the CD. The cover of Nearly Lost You by Screaming Trees is incredible. It's unorthodox, but absolutely brilliant.
So, they didn't give you a download code for the album even though the vinyl is delayed? That kinda stinks...
Kinda.. with the vinyl, they supplied a download code to the album + the bonus tracks. Since the delay, they sent me a dropbox link, but it only had 8 songs. Song 3 was missing. They later emailed me another link for that, but I havent burned it to disc yet because I wanted to wait for the bonus tracks and put them all together. They wont give me the bonus tracks DL until I get the physical vinyl. Its weird.
As far as covers, I think i've heard Rogue wave do some other covers, and they always seem to put their own touch on it. So im really Looking forward to hearing the Screaming Trees covre.
What format are the tracks in the dropbox folder? MP3? Bitrate? Just wondering what the quality would have been if I bought through the band's website.
They are wave files actually.
I finally burned the album without the bonus tracks. After two listens, I'm not all that into it. But I gotta give it a few more spins. That always take a bit to warm up to with me.
Cool, it's always nice to get lossless files. I wonder if the bonus tracks will be in wave format, too.
It's definitely a different record from ones they've made in the past.
