Awesome show . till they brought Ben Harper on stage . Sorry don't dig what he does to Red Mosquito .

I watched it again last night and that was a real rough performance during parts of that show. It sounded like Eddie was having some voice problems which is understandable because they played the night before and he screamed his head off. But a few songs like the end, amoungst the waves and red mosquito were hard for him to sing. Plus all the lyrical mistakes and guitar flubs. McCready missed his guitar part during inside job and Ed missed lyrics in unthought known, army reserve and the fixer. Overall, the passion was there but not a real good show for TV. Just breathe, do the evolution, j.guitar, porch and inside job were good but overall PJ is capable of alot better. The End was painful to hear. Im not sure how Ed can even sing those songs when his throat is 100% let alone shot after a huge festival performance from the night before. The guy is a trooper. I wonder what they thought of the performance?

I'm kind of glad I'm not so critical. I simply love the show!THEBIBLEISTEN wrote:I watched it again last night and that was a real rough performance during parts of that show. I think Ed sings The End with emotion, as though he was truly destined to live this world, begging not to.
Like you or me would.
It is lovely because the vulnerability in his voice is spot on...he is pleading.
Ed's depth in his singing is so great...as though he can act the songs out if you get what I mean.
He changes his voice to suit the mood and message of the song.
He rules!!0 -

Yeah I agree. If Mike isn't going to play it on the slide guitar then they need Ben. We need Mike to break out the slide though too."There was a band playing in my head, and I felt like getting high"0 -

i thought he sounded great .....especially in do the evolution...i saw them at jazzfest and he reaaaally struggled during that song but here he nails it..one of the best performances of it ive ever heard.....i think amongst the waves is just pretty tough to sing..i dunno0 -
Read my post, I said was having trouble with some of the songs becasue his voice was shot , not because he cant sing. If you think Eds voice sounded good during that show, your blind and deaf. I agree Do the evolultion was great but Ed's voice was hurting him. Its pretty obvious. Dont worry, i think its ok to make observations. I just wished they would have played better so non pj peeps who watched it would know how great Pj is. It was an off night i think.0

for me, in my opinion The End should be sang just the way it was...that being my thought behind my whole post. Not every song should be sang the same way.
Emotions in the songs is what Ed does best

Funny, I had never seen this braodcast until last night, I'm sure this has all been discussed before.
Red Mosquito was fantastic with Ben Harper ... I'll take him on Red Mosquito over Indifference any day.
Avacado is not one of my fave albums, but also agree Inside Job sounded pretty special.
Overall, great performance, a little *too* focused on the last album, but, that's usually how the ACL performances work, so understandable."You're one of the few Red Sox fans I don't mind." - Newch91

I remember that I enjoyed the show way better on the second viewing, not having too high expectations. The band was still fresh with Backspacer and wobbly at times, not to say the settings are bit uncomfortable, but they picked up with the older stuff, got me right in with Army Reserve. I think Eddie is intentionally emphasising the weakness of his voice in The End, he does that all the time.
Audio recording is awesome.0 -

Totally agree with what you said. Exactly, this is not a good show to recommend to someone who hasn't heard PJ in years or isn't familiar. For being their only major TV appearance in however many years (besides SNL, which was also kinda weak and boring), it's kinda embarrassing.
I think parts of this show has some of the weakest PJ performances I've ever heard... just bad. The End is absolutely terrible, and should have been first to have been edited out (the band has complete control over what airs on ACL). He sounds so bad. And I really don't think Ed purposely emphasizes the weakness in his voice... why would he want to sound BAD on purpose? He needs to quit the cigs, period. 2007 on has been embarrassing for his voice. Red Mosquito is NOT a hard song to sing, but on ACL he looks & sounds like he's about to die.ABQ 93, Las Cruces 95, ABQ 98, Bridge School 10/30/99, Lubbock 00, ABQ 00, Denver 03, State College 03, San Diego 03, Vegas 03, PHX 03, D.C. 03, Camden 7/5/03, NYC 7/8/03 + 7/9/03, Vegas 06, San Francisco 7/15/06 + 7/16/06 + 7/18/06, Kansas City 10, [EV:ABQ 11/6/12], Chicago 13, PHX 13, Denver 14--PJ24!, Telluride 16, Chicago 8/20/16, Chicago 8/18/18, Phoenix 22, Denver 22, Vegas 5/16/24

ed's voice was blah but who cares because they were on tv. they're never on tv. red mosquito was the best.
that's what i remember feeling.
where did ACL move to and why? heard they closed the building.*~Pearl Jam will be blasted from speakers until morale improves~*0 -
i wish Ed would quit the cigs as well .... some concerts tho from 09 and 10 he sounded so much better than others....at jazzfest i remember he reaaally struggled during some of the songs..i sorta cringed...not complaining tho0

Is this on on demand??0
