To Those Who Own Telephantasm...

Particularly the 2CD/1DVD version...is this worth buying/owning? I normally wouldn't bring it up but the fact is I have everything Soundgarden's done (all 5 studio plus Screaming Life/Fopp EP and A-Sides) so I'm really on the fence about this one.
The new stuff for me would be the song Black Rain of course as it was previously unreleased (though I have heard it) and all the videos on the DVD. Is it just music videos of the songs or are there live performances too? I'm sure a lot of the videos are probably posted on Youtube and whatnot so this adds to the reasons not to buy it. But, at the same time, I love Soundgarden and it would be a worthy addition, I assume...

Just get it, it is worth having all the videos and it is a cool collection to add to your SG cds!
All those yesterdays
All those yesterdays
All those paper plates
Mainly picked it up for the live/non studio versions. Well worth it for $5.
There are actually 2 different videos to Burden in My Hand (both very similar and shot in the desert) but only the usually shown one is on the DVD (I only have the other one because a TV show in Oz, back in the mid-to-late '90's split the screen horizontally and played them at the same time...it's on a VHS somewhere).
I would have paid for the DVD on its own, so I feel the package did its job for older Soundgarden fans, who've been waiting for a DVD like that for 15 years. It's also nice to get the Sub Pop Singles of the Month Club (7") version of "Room a Thousand Years Wide" (a totally different recording to the 'Badmotorfinger' version) on a digital master format. I shelled out big bucks for that single many years ago, and had to do a vinyl-->cassette-->laptop-->WAV/mp3 conversion (complete with clicks and pops from the record) just to get the fucker on my iPod!
take a good look
this could be the day
hold my hand
lie beside me
i just need to say
Just ordered 2cd/dvd version new from Amazon...
One thing though, read through quite a few customers reviews there and saw multiple complaints that the Telephantasm CD is ruined by loudness, something about dynamic range compression or something like that. People were saying it's another album fallen victim to the "Loudness Wars."
Can anyone support or dispel this claim?

My wax just came today, looking forward to spinning it tonight .......I was at the Vancouver Forum show Rusty Cage was recorded at so it will be a great look back!

and then just recently hmv had the boxset on sale for $50, and bought that too. what an amazing package.
if you're still on the fence i would buy it.
i also really don't get the loudness comment. i haven't noticed that.
sorry, have not noticed any issues with loudness. tomorrow before the wife and kids get home, I'll crank it up and give you a review.

A lot depends on the listener, too. My friend hates Avocado for its mastering; I think it sounds fine.
I have difficulty listening to Backspacer (especially the first track) because I find it harsh sounding to my ears. That same friend of mine has no issue with the mastering on Backspacer at all.
Different strokes for different folks. Sure, you're better off just buying Louder Than Love, Badmotorfinger, Superuknown and Down on the Upside and it shouldn't be an issue for you at all! :P
In this day and age loudness generally means brickwalling. Not saying it's done in this case. I think Telephantasm sounds pretty solid.
It's funny about you and your buddy liking/disliking those albums. I always thought that listeners that complained about overcompression are usually into the finer details of the music, whereas that stuff didn't really bother people who just dig the songs if you get what I mean.
S/T mastering doesn't bother me too much, but there's definitely a few tunes that could take a step back. BS is a mess. Definitely not something you should do with a more layered album.
