The new governor of ohio has made significant steps to break up public workers unions...most notably police and firefigters. He has said that if a public worker and their union wanted to strike, then they should "be fired" hmmmm as the people who protect our communities, shouldnt they have a rite to unionize just like anyone else without worring about losing their jobs?

In many cases police and firefighters (and probably other public employees) are considered essential services, and so while the can (and do) certainly unionize, they cannot strike. At least that's the case in Canada, can't say about the US. Interestingly the newly elected mayor of Toronto is trying to fulfill an election promise of declaring public transit an essential service; wouldn't break up that union per se, but obviously removing the right to strike limits their options during collective negotiations.
