If you're going to seriously get into vinyl/record collecting, then dont skimp on a cheap player, even off the bat.
You figure youre going to be spending good money on PJ vinyls plus whatever else you decide to start collecting. Its not cheap, but the results will pay off if you get quality equipment. No use in spending money on records to just plop on a crappy turntable/stylus/speaker combination.
You can find a solid turntable in the $250-500 price range. several different reliable brands out there.
Next is to make sure you have a decent/quality stylus to go along. If you buy used or new, the table will prob come with one. If not its not real hard to replace/install on your own.
Another thing to keep in mind; speakers. If you already have nice home speakers you can use those, if not, again dont skimp out on quality here. Very important. To fully enjoy the treats of the vinyl, do yourself a favor and get a set of speakers that sound full and that pleases your ears.
And so you see, I have come to doubt
All that I once held as true
    I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you.

That's a perfectly decent turntable. I also agree with the Dr. D, make sure your speakers got it where it counts. Makes all the difference in the world.
E agora? Faz xixi na mão e deita fora!
  • whatever you do, don't do what I did before I knew what I was doing. Bought one at Canadian Tire for $85!

The new Rega-RP1 is a great value for the price.
I recently grabbed a used Music Hall MMF-5 which is a notch above the Rega but cost the same used.
If you are in the Boston area check out the audio store in the Cambridge Garage Mall.
Good guys, good gear, good prices.

My son got me this for father’s day a back in 09 http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.as ... MHMMF2%2E2 ....not bad for a new born at the time! .....anyways it has been a great turn table ....looking to upgrade the needle now. Make sure the receiver / amp you are using has a phono jack an aux jack will not work and you will require a pre amp

Welcome to the world of vinyl and you won’t regret it. Just as the members have said… get a proper turntable especially a solid one. Hopefully you have either an amplifier or receiver that has phono included. Oh, avoid those USB turntables as they cause problems when it comes to playing and recording records, skips, etc… I have configured 2 of them for people and what I didn’t like about them was the sound as they were cheap sounding. . Here’s a link here to a 20 year old 45 and hopefully it will make you determined to get into collecting vinyl and have fun with your records in the near future :D

Anyone know of a somewhat retro-wood looking one, which has an output for a receiver? I have an 100 year old table with some age, and wondering if they make a decent decorative one, but one with an output for a receiver instead of built in speakers.
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

Was given this one as a B-Day present, very happy with it. It's also well reviewed.

  • Hey I just ordered the exact same one last night!
What kind of speakers did you end up using with it?
