i'm looking for some advice on something. should i hold poltical leaders to a higher standard than i hold myself? as far as morals. i'm not perfect at all but i expect people like Bill Clinton not to get head in the oval office. it's why i look up to obama. he seems to be a good person and a good family man.
what pisses me off something fierce is seeing george bush at the super bowl or world series while thousands of troops and their families are suffering.

PS im starting to think a tea bagger could be a liberals best friend

We can hope elected leaders would be obligated to act better, but that's not different from asking the same of yourself or any other individual - and as you stated, you don't. So why expect something of others, you yourself aren't willing to do? Don't mean it in a nasty or mean way to you, but people think leaders ought to do things, but forget they come from the very society which breeds all the attributes we complain about (greed, laziness, self-interest, etc). So all it does is create false or unrealistic expectations of leaders. If our society is full of trash, once the system takes effect,... garbage in and garbage out. That's our government via society and vice versa.

we range from the scum of the earth to the greatest of humans

we just need to better recognize who is who

    as far as bush goes

don't get mad at puppets, start with cheney

and as far as the troops go

    there is no draft

as much as i would love to see all of the troops safe at home

they chose to fight this war, for this government and their cause

and if the war ended today and everyone came home

i assume more than half of them would be disapointed

I think we should hold them to a higher standard to some degree. Does getting head in the oval office affect his abilities as president? It might! If Georgie had gotten head a few times or watched a few episodes of Bob Ross with Harold and Kumar, we might not be in the mess we're in over in Iraq.

There are certain personal things that I cant judge them on. Obama is a smoker, Bill got head, Georgie read books upside down, JFK ran around wih Marylin... was their leadership affected? hard to say.

Great questions though, and a good one to pnder.

No. You should vote for leaders that conform to your moral code.
The only people we should try to get even with...
    ...are those who've helped us.

I sympathize for your wife. However, I completely agree.

This is just nuts. Why was it Bush's war up until Obama took office and now it's the troops war because they are in a volunteer army? Are you insane?

Why does it make you angry that Bush was at the Superbowl? His time is over! How can we build to the future if we are still pointing fingers at the past. It's good you support Obama. He needs support. Like him or hate him, every American should support him, because he's at the driver's wheel. I swear to god nothing is more difficult for me to understand that extreme leftists and rightists. Do you think a full fledged tirade against our leader is going to help America progress?

There is a significant difference between encouragement and condemnation. Don't expect more out of your leaders than you expect out of yourself. When your leaders are not living up to your expectations, encourage them to do so.

We cannot build bridges to the future by throwing bricks at the past.

It might be your past, but it's many people's present. Try telling what you just wrote to the millions of Iraqis and Afghanis who have had their lives thrown upside down by Bush's policies and Obama's continuation of them. I mean, not only do you promote forgetting everything Bush did since it was SO long ago (I mean, 2 years ago, like who remembers that?!?!?!?!) but you even say we should support Obama since he's our leader? What kind of backwards ass patriotism is that? Do you think unequivocal and unwavering support for our president helps America progress?! Or do you think being critical of the bullshit policies that have been enacted time and time again through both the disgusting Republican and filthy Democratic parties would help America progress? Your post is basically asking everyone to be sheep, just like yourself. Thank God a lot of people are too smart to listen to that nonsense. It's not about looking to the past for no reason, it's about justice and rights. If a murderer killed your family members and wasn't caught till years later, I suppose you would say "why look to the past? let's just MOVE FORWARD."

How convenient of you to cut out the preamble to my quote. I think you're right. We should all get upset that Bush was at the Superbowl. Very very upset. Had Bush not gone to the Superbowl, the troops would be home by now, and had the troops come home already, they wouldn't have had a chance to make it their fault America is in a senseless war. Don't pay attention to the part of my quote either where I suggested you write your leaders about their undesirable policies.

What you just did there was exactly what I can't stand. I hope you feel like more of a man now that you've done your best to throw me under the bus. You can continue to make your mindless noise to yourself, but I'm done listening. Peace.

You don't have to get upset Bush was at the SB, but it's perfectly understandable if others do. He's responsible for millions of lives being ruined and should be on trial, not enjoying himself at a football game. Besides, your whole point of 'we should forget the past and look to the future' is actually pure garbage. In fact, it's recycled garbage thrown out by the idiots in the Obama Administration when they refused to look into Bush's torture record, and was rehashed by the idiotic mainstream media, the same people you assumably try to talk trash against. And it's not entirely implausible to place some blame on the troops who partake in the war. Think about it for a second: every single member of the Taliban or any other group fighting against our American troops; if they were caught, they'd be tortured and put on trial in the U.S. or Guantanamo and every American would likely find that perfectly ok. Well, why is it ok to place blame on every single Taliban soldier or every single member of a terrorist organization but it's not ok to place any blame on the U.S. troops whose leaders forced them into this? Why are we holding members of the taliban and terrorist organizations, no matter how minimal of a role they play, to a higher standard than our own soldiers? I'm not simply suggesting that American soldiers are all terrorists, but it certainly is not as clear cut as you try to make it sound.

And I agree with your part about writing our leaders which is why I didn't bother responding to it. It was the other senseless drivel I had a problem with. Feel free to ignore me, I really don't care. :)

Don't you remember? That was Bush's argument to go to Iraq after the previous 23 were debunked as bullshit. It was during his famous speech; "Ich Bin Ein Cowboy"
