funny. in my case my mom didn't have a c-section and i paid the price, and you do too.(taxes) for awhile i believe c-sections were on the rise to prevent stories like mine. now i see they want to curb them. how if babies are bigger than they once were? will it end up costing more because they're now less likely to do c-sections so more lawsuits may occur? i saw this story on the news today.

http://healthland.time.com/2011/01/31/t ... st-say-no/

my story: http://ivys2cents.blogspot.com/2007/12/ ... issed.html

PS. i disagree on doing c-sections for a non-medical reason. ex convenience.

I'm very sorry to hear that your Mum's doc was a wanker, my doc wasn't particularly wonderful either even though I have private. I can't really afford it but I have my reasons why I really need it. I don't believe in C sections for no medical reasons either but maybe some women are terrified of the pain or something?? Mind you I have heard that C-sectionc are no walk in the park afterwards either? :? My Doc did however make me wait til 40 weeks and have a 9 pound baby el-natural!:lol:

exactly. the pain. that's why on the other hand i don't know why c-sections on the rise. why would women want to go thru that if it's not necessary? i mean which hurts worse? are the doctors bribing them with a cut of the money? lol.

Yeah, beats me? I mean it's been 6 months for me and I still don't feel 100%, I could only imagine what it would be like having a great big scar to get over too! :?

i think above all else the physical and mental health of the mother should be paramount. if for some reason a vaginal birth is going to freak her out to the detriment of the child then sure get that belly cut open. if the mother is just too precious to go through a vaginal birth and chooses to do so for convenience sake, whilst i dont support that practice i support her choice. were all different and should be treated as such. the worst thing is having someone telling you to 'suck it up' when they are:

    a) male

    and

    b) have not ever experienced child birth.

if i want to go out into the woods and birth my child and i and the child are healthy, then i should. and i should be encouraged to do so.

i dont even recall a doctor being present during my labours.

i know this will be construed as a sexist comment, but generally i dont think men, aside from the father, should be involved in labour at all.

Unfortunately, I was assigned him because he dealt with high-risk pregnancies, turns out that the nurses were more helpful anyway. He was such a jerk! I freaked out a little coz I have epilepsy and the gas he gave me while breaking my water made me feel like I was about to seizure and he was being really rude and getting frustrated!

my mom has told me her doctor made comments about not being paid (no insurance) and was off down the hall with the family in labor that did have insurance. she remembers the nurse chasing after him with the charts trying to get his attention because something wasn't right.

yes. i think men are too desensitized to pain/fear women have.

nurses are fantastic. hospitals would grind to a halt if it werent for them.

though i ahve to admit they roused on me cause i hadnt told them my water broke. i didnt want them restricting my movements so i kept it to myself til they specifically mentioned it. my son was born drugfree and with not much effort from me tbh. in fact he was almost born in the elevator on the way up to the birthing unit. i mightve had to call him otis.

:( That's so wrong. Without getting into too much detail, I had an ectopic pregnancy a couple of years ago and could have died when they left me unseen too over night and most of the next day because I had no private health. That's the reason we wanted it for my birth this time, in case it happened again or if my epilepsy flaired up while I was pregnant, which it did. I think these doctors just become complacent after a while, it becomes a job more than dealing with people's lives and hearts.

yup i agree. they should rotate like elected officials for that reason.
yeah...don’t dare get sick or pregnant without insurance. it's a shame.

yeah i agree. seeing all thsoe babies born has got to numb the experience for some people. i consider it an honour to be present at a birth. i was in the theatre when my granddaughter was born via c-section and saw her being lifted out, i cut her umbilical cord and was the first person to cuddle her. she and i are very close and i truly consider her one of my children.

I am lucky to live in a country that has a good health care system especially maternity. Here we don't have doctors unless it is a high risk pregnancy, all is done by midwives. I had two very different (drugfree) births with amazing support by women who were mothers themselves. I think it is sad these days that women are choosing not to experience natural birth, but if needed I am glad that c-sections are available quickly.

I am so sorry Ivy that your health system failed you and your mother. Having a system that deals with money is so unethical. Since when did a human beings health = money??

my brother and i were both c sections even though my mom tried to have us both naturally.

my aunt on my dad's side had something go wrong during birth, and for some reason the anesthesia didn't work... she had to be tied down while they did an emergency c section

C sections could be a necessary medical practice but nowadays, it's more about narcissism and vanity.

Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a law-breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. - Louis Brandeis

I've never given birth so obviously I can't say much on the subject, but from what I understand a lot of people choose this route nowadays for those reasons (again I might be wrong)

Also the breastfeeding thing... Women who don't want their boobs to sag or whatever so they just use formula despite the benefits of natural milk

i'm so glad my mom breastfed me. after my first hellish day on earth i really did need the nourishment. (i was skinny as a rail because of all that stress) plus they say so many other good things about breast milk.... cuts down on the kid developing allergies etc.

that really pisses me off and i'm not even a mother!

There's no doubt it's the best thing for them but my medication seemed to dry it up straight away unfortunately. Bubs got about 3 weeks from me so I guess that's better than nothing at all.
