I found that Hawaii was pretty good. There is plenty of touristy stuff, but you can get away from it.

Why not Thailand? Ever read The Beach? Just be careful as to what private beach you set up camp on. ;)

Wananavu, Fiji. No T.V., Not alot of tourists and you can kayak to other little uninhabited islands, really pretty. :D We took a six pack of beer and drank it on some little island beach in the middle of nowhere. Such bogans!

Tulum, Mexico. Quiet, safe, no touristy crap, no big hotels just cabanas right on the beach. Easy to get to from New York I stayed here in December http://www.luvtulum.com/english.html
Think they're doin 1/2 off their listed prices, they were in Dec
And you may get to see one of these: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aICoL73m60Y
  • Zihuatanejo, Mexico... Little place right on the Pacific. You know what the Mexicans say about the Pacific? They say it has no memory. That's where I'd like to finish out my life. A warm place with no memory. Open a little hotel right on the beach. Buy some worthless old boat and fix it up like new. Take my guests out charter fishing.

  • St. John, US Virgin Islands...
Most beautiful beach I have ever been to...
And 2/3 of it is National Park.
