Vinyl to cd

So recently I've been thinking of recording some of my vinyl to a cd then mp3 format in order to get a little bit different listen to my ipod. Has anyone ever done this? Obviously it's not going to sound like listening to a record (as it is still compressed), but I would imagine it would be a little different. I have all the equipment to do it so it really would only take time and blank cd's as far as cost. I only have No Code and Yield on vinyl as far as pearl jam goes but they are my favorite records. Also if someone has done this is there any way you could give me a sample or two or just a link? Greatly appreciated.

Why don't you just buy a turntable that connects to your pc? I'm sure you can find a program that would rip it straight from the vinyl.

I've never done it, but the best way is likely to use a phono box with USB capabilities, such as this one:

I rip vinyl to digital. The sound depends on the source. A well recorded album that is in good condition will sound amazing when digitized. I have a mac and use the free software Audacity. Works great.
