This is from the 20th anniversary tribute show I hosted back in Nov.

The band is comprised of students and board members. Drums, Bass, and one guitar are all 14 or 15 year olds. Then us old heads, I'm playing lead guitar, GTF13 is on guitar, and ALIVE4781 (Nick Rhodes of TEN) on vocals.

Here is a link to our version of "Jeremy-Animal-Jeremy":

I posted the entire EP we put together on the Porch. But I wanted to just post this one song here and get a discussion going. Not just about this version (though I would LOVE to hear your thoughts). But about whether or not you like the idea of blending and non-stop mixing of songs together. AND, what other PJ songs you think would work well like this.

  • I have always thought it would be cool if PJ made an album where the previous song just blended into the next like Brain of J into faithful or cantkeep into save you

Blending & mixing & putting one song inside another is a great idea. The grateful dead did this alot in concert and in fact had many songs that they would only play together as a set.

It seems to work best if you hang out at that transition chord in between for alot more than a few measures. That way you can more subtly get into the second song's groove a little better...the more hanging & jamming on that transition chord/chords makes for a more seamless transition.

The song(s) sounds great...they sound just like the studio versions for the most part. Where does TEN play? The vocals...how uncannily like Vedders.

Drums & Bass (& one guitar) are 14/15 year olds? impressive

Yo Half! Thanks a lot for listening and giving the topic some thought. We are working on 3 or 4 new blends for our spring show and I will be taking your idea into consideration. (The longer transition part of the jam) We wanted a quick "oh f-ck!" moment with the Animal change, fast, so heads wouldnt know what was hitting them for a split second!

TEN is based out of Pittsburgh, heres a webpage for them http://www.tenband.com/ Nick contacted me through an open call I put out to all forum members to get involved. I didnt know he was going to as good as he was!

And yes, HALF the band cant even drive or get learner's permits! hahaha! I am very proud of my army of students here at Evolution. We take the music very seriously, and I treat all my students as true artists from the first day they walk in the door. I never say "you are gonna be great when your 20!" I say "you are going to be great NOW!"

Yo Ryan.. When/Where will the spring show be taking place?
End of May or early June, most likely in Philadelphia. Last show was in Spring City, PA at an old vaudville theatre called Chaplin's Music Cafe (Charlie Chaplin performed there). This show we are talking with World Cafe Live http://philly.worldcafelive.com/ and hoping to secure that venue asap. We also have contacted the Trocadero. And a couple very nice old-timey theaters in the surrounding area. One is an old movie theatre (awesome) with ornate carvings and balcony.

I agree totally with the "you are great now" attitude. When one is expected to be great, one usually rises to that expectancy level. You know.

    What exactly is "Evolution"?

"Evolution" is EVOLUTION MUSIC STUDIOS, llc. (located in Trappe, PA) I call it the "Best Music School on the Planet!" It is a full range music school and performance center. We give individual instrument instruction for guitar, drums, bass, vocals, keyboard, and saxophone. Also songwriting. I started the business and opened the school in August 2009. Before that I was the main guitar teacher and musical director at another local music school.

We do 3-4 regular full school recital-concerts a year. Also summer rock band camp programs, where I put bands together, have them learn a full set list (of their picks) plus write at least one original. Then another big concert for those groups and they each record an album of their stuff, with artwork.

We have students ranging from 5-60+. Kids as young as 9 writing their own originals and recording them. 14 year olds with full bands making pro sounding demos and booking shows. Another student who got a personal letter from a president of a big-name record label wanting to sign him after high school. And we are still just taking off!

I am also in the process of starting my own label and artist management branch. I believe in everything we are doing. Working on creating a huge scene from seeds!
