To be honest, I'm not sure what a lot of those programs do....

I wonder why defense spending is not on the table, though...I wonder why $4 billion in annual subsidies and tax breaks for the oil companies is not not on the list...

and the federal workforce reform thing is bullshit...IMO

how about requiring collection of unpaid taxes by EVERYONE who owes them...why just federal employees...?

and what's wrong with Beach Replenishment and Department of Energy Grants to States for Weatherization and Energy Star Program and Intercity and High Speed Rail Grants...?

Canadian politics are no better, believe me. For example, our minority conservative government squashed bill C-311 which would have set increased limits for carbon output by oil companies in the oil sands of Northern Alberta.
With that said, the American people really have a conundrum when looking around all those states, foreign policy, health care. For me, as a Canadian and realizing the influence America plays on "my" country, it leads me to one wish: I wish greed didn't exist.

Back to the topic at hand. Cuts suck because the cuts will always occur in social programs. Social programs, community parks, hospitals, etc., will always be first on the list. That's a shame. Here in Canada, we cut hospital beds like their going out of style but our electricity bills go up. Huh ? Electricity that my province, Ontario, is selling to another province and also selling to the United States. Their bills don't go up because they'll turn around and say, "Oh, sorry, too expensive. We're going somewhere else."

Politics are such a joke.. there are some things on that list that are no-brainers... but instead of eliminating them, you know, to reduce government spending and to be bi-partisan, like every babbles about, neither side will do anything about them. No one does anything legislative unless it makes their side look better than the other.

  • which NON defense programs?

well, I would start with taking out about 90% of the miltary budget, which is offensive (no pun intended)

I'd cut almost all of them.

    ...
Do you know what all of them go towards? How many people will be placed in the unemployment pool? What effect will that place on our precarious economy?
    ...
Also... how about cutting some of the Defense appropriations budget? How much is it costing us to maintain those U.S. military bases in Germany and Japan? Shouldn't Germany and Japan pay for them and our role be a member of their defense force, instead of the other way around? And what about some of the military hardware... wouldn't you rather pay for lunches for kids in school... than storage of nuclear devices?
Question: Why is the Defense Budget off-limits to Republicans?
Answer: Republicans make money from Defense Spending... always have... always will.

First, the Reuters article is from August of 2009.

Programs to make significant cuts to:
    END THE WARS
    Farm subsidies
    entitlements
    the military budget
    grants/tax breaks to oil companies
aid to foreign nations who do not need it

    http://www.ourfuture.org/makingsense/fa ... -war-costs
    http://www.associatedcontent.com/articl ... tml?cat=70
  • First thing I would cut is a large part of the defense budget. Howabout we make defense about, DEFENSE of our boarders, and pull all our bases off of foreign soil.

I'd also end farm subsidies (because I know conservatives love the free market).

I was gonna ask why defense spending should be off the table, but you found a loophole...nicely done!

Actually, I wouldn't mind cutting a bunch of money from the defense budget, either.

But then again, I'm not a Republican.

that list is such a pile of bullshit.

First.. the National Endowment of the Arts costs every American tax payer a whopping 25¢ per year.

Yup. Twenty-five cents per year. Staggering.

Had people really cared about the nickel and dimeing of America, they would have been upset about the hundreds of thousands of dollars spent defending the DADT law that everyone knew was on it's way out.

The Health Care Law has been shown that it will SAVE money.. not cost money.

But you conservatards just can't take that so you jump up and down screaming "DEATH PANELS!! SOCIALISM!!! RATIONING!!!! SOILENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!!!!"

Seriously... you really need to get a grip. I know how horrible it is that a black man is in the white house, but you're just going to have to get used to it.
  • Why is defense spending off the table?

And I will gladly pay your tab for the national endowment for the arts.

  • Start with as many entitlement programs as you can.

Hey, that 24-year-old didn't CHOOSE to be a mother of 6 by 4 different men who are all currently incarcerated! She's a victim and she deserves a taxpayer-funded cell phone and section 8 housing!
I knew it all along, see?

Yet should we punish those 6 kids for their mother's behaviour?

We should educate the kids so they don't make the same stupid mistake.................

  • You need to do some research. The cbo has released that the hc bill is not going to save money. It's going to add to the deficit. The Obama admin.did not give the CBO All the correct numbers. I. Would post a link to prove that you are wrong but I'm on my new iPad and I'm still trying to figure this thing out. And I love how you threw out the race card. It seems that's all you got when you know you're wrong. By the way, nevermind it's not even worth my time

Tell me about it! Over here in Greater Van, they're apparently shutting down (completely this time) the mental hospital. No wonder our homeless problem is so bad, from what I understand last time they just put the patients on the streets. But at least we can all watch conservative ads of Stephen Sweatervest doing paperwork in front of a fire.
